Hi, I've managed to install Linux Cinnamon 17.2 on a Chromebook and run eve using ...

provided by CCP Snorlax in post https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=482663

My issue is the Chromebook only has a 16 gig onboard hdd storage and i want to move the eve directory to another partition on a usb memory stick.

I'm looking for help moving the eve folder as it quickly uses all free space on the hdd.

Can you swap the HDD (SSD?) for a bigger one? If not, you should be able to use the launcher to relocate the cache to another place.

Idk how the program will feel about it being on an external drive, but, I'm sure youll find out.

It uses Wine, so the path to the virtual drive should be configurable.

If not, move the directories and replace them with symlinks.

EVE on a Chromebook? Wat. I guess the only thing you want to do is station trading.

But these days you probably cant even do station trading, because CCP has removed static hangar background and the 3D station environment needs more CPU and RAM resources than the 3D space environment (except when you zoom in, but who does that?).

Runs fine on my Commodore 64. With the 5.25 floppy drive, not the cassette drive. I just have to turn down the graphics a bit. Cool

As it happens the chromebook runs 3 clients quite well, well enough for me to do a few lvl 5's, I'm new to linux and would love a little more detailed help on how to go about moving the eve folder.

Hi, I have no idea how Chromebooks work, but if you use a standard Linux this will hopefully work the same way.

The shared cache folder is per default in your home directory under ".eve". Probably the easiest way is to simply move that directory to a external drive which is usually automounted shomewhere under /media/ and then create a symbolic link.

Something like that (replace "mydisk" with the directory of where your disk is mounted):
Quote:

mv ~/.eve /media/mydisk/
ln -s /media/mydisk/.eve ~/.eve

Thankyou Ima Wreck, I'll give it a go in a little while.

FYI, there's a Linux Forum which is perfect for these kinds of questions:
