Refining and Redeploying Ship Masteries

I think it would be nice if the ship mastery trees had a more accurate depiction of how well you can utilize the vessel. For example, the venture has both ice mining in its tree, which is curious as it can never utilize any ice mining tools, and propulsion jamming, which I find to be very far outside of its role. But, there's absolutely nothing about drones, despite the fact that drones are easily the only viable option for defending a venture.

I'm sure folks here have a lot of other examples that seem dubious or outright silly.

While I agree that certain masteries are misleading in that they guide players to skills they probably don't need (or at the very least, in the wrong order), they are generally regarded as rough guidelines.

If anything I'd advocate for renaming it from "Mastery" to "Benefits From" or some other variation of that; in essence, just make it more obviously a "this is what makes your ship better, but only kind of" way.

That said, if you're looking through the masteries and blindly just adding skills to your queue without reading them, I would say you almost deserve to waste a month training skills you'll never need.

The certificates are generic and apply to your mastery of some aspect of the game. The resource harvesting certificate applies to the character, not the ship.

That said, the certificates recommended for mastery level III of a ship you want to fly are a pretty good indication of the skills you'll need to fly that ship competently. Since the certificates are generic, once you have Core Spaceship Operation level III for 1 ship, you have it for all of them. Ice mining may not be useful for a Venture but, someday you may want to fly a Procurer - same resource
harvesting certificate applies to mastery of that ship.
