Set AFK status for Corp Members to See

It would be useful if we could set a status (like AFK) for our characters which only our Corporation members could see.

Reasonable idea, as long as the AFK flag is 100% voluntary and not something the game automatically sets based on a lack of activity. A voluntary flag is useful so your friend who logs on after your "BRB, getting dinner" message in corp chat knows why you aren't responding. An automatic flag gives away valuable intel to spies.

I would only support it going automatic if it ONLY shows it to corp. Though that would still be a little iffy. Voluntary would be better, and I'd prefer it if you could set your own filters for who could see it. If I go afk from a public channel I wouldn't mind if everyone knew I was afk. Sometimes I might not mind local knowing I'm afk, most of the time I'd prefer they didn't know. Or maybe some days I'd want to filter it by standings. In general though, yeah I'd support it, a social game without a way to indicate your social availability seems kinda backwards.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

I agree this should be something which the player can set manually. At a minimum this would be a good implementation.

However, since this will only be visible to your corp-mates, it would be nice if there was an option for the flag to be set automatically. Perhaps even with a user definable time-out period before it sets you as AFK.

And then if CCP wanted to get even more complex, they could do what mkint suggests and allow you even greater control over who can and cannot see the flag. For instance, reds cannot see the flag, but blues can see it.

+1 to idea

I think it should be manual, but good idea.

I like it, but it should show up in the local chat window for all to see. Then we could have an interesting mini game to determine if AFK was true or a ruse.

Most folks that have 3rd party comms have an AFK channel. Some folks have a log out, we're tired of seeing your afk patoot loitering in channel.

I understand the mechanics of your proposal, but honesty I don't see how it adds anything to the game. What does it add to the game? If you're afk and I type "Goodgreyer, are you there??" and you don't answer.... doesn't that kind of do the same thing already?
