So I know a few years back CCP basically mentioned how someone could put a video on the screen in the CQ. Can you still do that? I fiddled a bit with it and I couldn't make it work.

Is it still possible?

Tried it 3 years ago - was a major kludge then. Probably has not improved much.

If only we could "pipe" streams into the CQ... but we don't have a CSM for that.

Yes, you have to use WEBM format.

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6792510

[[As it turns out, you will have to use 48 kHz audio for every video in CQ for sound to play with proper speed. Somehow online converters save sound in 44,1 kHz only, that is bad for CQ.

To save file in WEBM format use this program. You can change settings for sound there to 48 kHz. Other settings can be left without change,]]

And put WEBM file in:
\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_eve_sharedcache_tq_tranquility\cache\CQScreenVideos (for me AppData its located in C:\Users\accountname)
You have to create the folder \CQScreenVideos if its not there.

Video is stretched to the screen proportions. If you want not stretched video, you have to cut or extend it on the borders in the source video. Best resolution was 1280 x 622 for me.

Should work, I have mine playing.

BIKs dont play now, you have to use WEBM like in my previous post. All ads played on billboards are in WEBM format also. CCP made a switch to WEBM some time ago.

It would be good if they would edit this article, it is misleading now.

Excellent info and good workaround.

If it's a choice between piping streams into CQ, or having stuff happen in space, I know which I'd push for, and which I'd push to be smothered in its sleep.

Gameplay in CQ I could possibly get behind. Just watching steams? nope.

I think billboards and screen in CQ are streaming already, in some sense. There is constant stream of video showed on them. And we cant turn them off.

As for piping stuff to the screen in CQ, it dont really have more sense than using your web browser now. Functionality of browser is 1000% better.
I use CQ only for few short videos that are lore friendly, so they provide additional immersion for me, when I happen to be there.

Because it would be such a bad thing to have more customizable corporate or alliance level information / content available ingame in an at least somewhat immersive way...

I don't use CQ anymore, because honestly, there is nothing useful to find / do besides sitting on the couch.

Oh, I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice. Just not nice enough to dedicate the developer time to, instead of something else. As I thought was clear in what I was saying.

Lead Dev - assigns coders to art department. Equips them with a box of crayons. Still a better investment than wasting time on anything CQ related.

TV works like usual. Yes, it plays the usual stuff, beside your video. Its additional content for TV. Your content plays first, then there is break for CCP stuff. And it loops.

Mara Pahrdi wrote:

...and watch TV? Actually that is the best idea. But TV would have to be provided by CCP.

Why?

Content streaming open for users, where they can put "their own" content opens a window for some exploits, and I think CCP would have to deal with copyright law, like You Tube or Twitch. I dont see such streaming in CQ happening anytime soon, or ever.

Lets just be happy we can put there everything and nobody else have to watch it, just like it is now.

So thanks!

I fiddle with it and in fact it does work! So you might ask why the heck I wanted to do sometning like that? Well, I want to make some corp content and build a little app to refresh the files there in cache directly so folks in the corp can see some our our content. Once I get the app working as intended I'll share it out. Basically the idea is I'll find a place in the cloud somewhere to publish content and the have it sent out the subscribers.

Too bad you can't do the same with your a billboard. I know I'd think about paying for a billboard I could deply with my own content! Of course you'd have to let it also be like anything in space so it could be blown up but it could be fun!

Actually when using http://keepvid.com/ you can save videos from YouTube to the computer in WEBM format. If the sound is too fast in CQ, see post above.

Its simple act of copying video file to cache folder after its done.

All your favourite anime music videos in your CQ, can you imagine? 😎👌
