Hello,

I've just re-joined EVE after about five years away. The game has me totally hooked... again.

I'm looking to re-establish my research and production stuff. Rather than using POS or building (and managing!) my own engineering complex, I'm looking to establish myself in a decent highsec engineering complex.

I do invetnion, PE / ME research, copying and module and rig building.

I was hoping someone could give me some tips on where I should start? Is there a "good" area for engineering complexes? Are there any corporations with good engineering complex setups?

Any pointers would be appreciaed.

If you're operating in highsec you can rent offices in engineering complexes operated by others. Some corporations are establishing chains - for example https://gate.eveonline.com/Corporation/Mogul%20Industrial%20Services

The downside to these is they tend to be located in or near trade hubs so the system cost index is high https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Industry#System_Cost_Index

An Raitaru with manufacturing, research, invention service modules and 3 T1 rigs is a 3 billion ISK investment and roughly half a billion/month for fuel. A lot of people built them a few months ago and are now realizing that they don't make economic sense. If you setup shop in an EC run by a small corporation there is a chance they will let it run out of fuel or even take it down.

Thus far, my experience as a renter has been good but I've read several horror stories on the forums. You pay your money and take your chances.

In a perfect world, CCP would provide a replacement for the small POS - which was an ideal tool for a small industrialist. Cheap, portable and flexible.

For a good full setup you need at least 2 Raitarus. First with manufacturing, invention and refinery, the second with ME, TE research and copy. As copy is coupled with research, you always need two service modules to cover copy/invention. The refinery on the manufacturing EC is handy if you don't want to haul bulky minerals.

I would have setup my own already, if it only would be economically viable. I don't mean profit, just coverage of costs (including defense options).

I'm my own NPC alt.

One thing to note about Engineering Complexes is that they present "interesting choices" with respect to specialization.

For example: one might decide to specialize in T1 Cruisers, Battlecruisers, Industrials, and Mining Barges and get some nice rig bonsues for just that set of items.

Here is important information about ECs'
