How to get escalations ?

So I have been cleaning regular combat sites that you don't need to scan down, mainly trying to get an escalation
The problem is, I have been doing it for some hours and none ever escalated
So my question is, do you need to destroy any structures or just kill all the rats that appear ? How rare is it to escalate into a DED complex ?

Its a luck streak based activity, because the base probability is generally below 10%, ie you are more likely to clear 30 and get none, then get 2 nearly in a row.

Its usually the last rat, or a particular rat in the last normal wave - commanders are usually not the escalation rat. Some require you to kill turrets to get more rats to appear, and for many anomolies there are more than one version of them, one of which might require the turrets killed and the other which might not.

The usual hint that it is completed is that shortly after its completed the signature will vanish from the scan and overlay.

The best result I've had for escalations is serpentis dens.
390 completed for 38 escalations, longest streak without an escalation, 36

The worst that I've had was gurista rally point
328 completed for 4 escalations, and longest streak without an escalation - 216, but bear in mind that CCP may have changed that since (the gurista was a couple of years ago at least).

Some highsec encounters appear to have no escalations, I've never seen a serpentis forsaken, hidden or forlorn hideaway escalate.

Not every combat anomaly will escalate. For example in hisec only hideaways, refugees and dens escalates. Unrated scanned combat sites escalates as well into their specific escalation.

Like Jeremiah Saken said, mainly just the basic Anomaly sites will escalate into expedition, not the 'Hidden', 'Forsaken' or 'Forlorn' sites.

However I'd like to point out that getting a Commander NPC spawn is also considered an escalation of the site.

Take for example Angel Hideaways and Burrows, contrary to what some wiki's may state, those sites won't escalate to expedition but they will escalate to a Commander spawn.

And since Commander spawns are essentially considered an escalation, basically all Anomaly sites can indeed escalate.

By the way, do a Google search on each exploration site for more intel on various triggers associated with each site. Main thing is don't give up and eventually you'll start getting escalations.

That is what i see and get when doing combats in Sansha space:

Sansha Rally points - giving 6/10 DED escalations
Sansha Port - DED 8/10
Sansha Heaven DED 10/10

This is what i get from, sometimes i get some non DED escalations when im doing Forlorns and Forsakens but rare...

The rate of escalation is wierd to me :P sometimes i get about 5-6 DEDs when i rat 4 hourse... sometimes i get 0.

So not every site gives DEDs.
