Here's My Question To The Eve Online Community.

I am planning to by an Imac for Multi-box play. Will the following be powerful enough?

" 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display
4.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz
32GB 1867MHz DDR3 SDRAM - four 8GB
1TB Flash Storage
AMD Radeon R9 M395X with 4GB video memory "

P.S. Please don't go all PC-Master Race on me :-)

You'll be fine I'm sure, but might want to expect 50 clients at max resolution.

biggest problem you'll run into is that eve doesn't handle huge resolutions particularly well. Be prepared for small text.

Imac 5k? I hope you do not mean this display : LG UltraFine 5K‑display

If yes i strongly advise you to not buy this crappy monitor. Go for 4K there are plenty good monitors. Or for imac a lesser display like 2k works great. Most of the time 99% for Mac display have input lag and screen tearing. Or you need to play on 30fps then your fine. 2K however can run smooth with 60fps depend on what GPU there are using. Or go for 1k display with 144fps this is the best option for smooth game play. But you want the big screen and don`t mind to play with input lag and fps lag or screen tearing go for the 5k.

As you ask what i`m using for my pc a 3x40 inch iiyama ProLite X4071UHSU max resolution 11520 x 6480. Yes those display are 30fps but if you turn of the vsync the fps going above the 30fps with screen tearing. But this not a big deal for me.

I have a mid-14 (non-retina) iMac that can multibox several accounts in windowed mode, so I imagine you won't have an issue with the 5K iMac. Personally, I'm holding out for this mythical "iMac Pro" that Tim Cook was hinting at for later this year before considering an upgrade. I also have a Haswell-E/980Ti PC that I use, but when I multibox on that sometimes I get client instability and crashes. I think the current gen 5K iMac is underpowered in the graphics department.

This. On the upside, once you're down to 50 clients - well then that's only 50 orders to .01-isk.

I have run multiple clients with an off the shelf laptop from best buy for years. You'll be fine.

Twin 1080 and a BenQ 32" 4K runs 10 accounts without any issues.

FWIW, a 42 in. diag 4K (3840x2160) wide-screen16:9 monitor is equivalent to four 24 in. diag. (1920x1080) monitors

I really wouldn't bother with 4K or higher on a smaller monitor. You won't notice the difference, and it just makes the GPU work harder displaying pixels you really can't discern apart anyways.

I work in the live-production (real-time) video industry, where people stare at monitors all-day looking for the slightest artifacts. I can never see anything wrong, even on 65" monitors.

Don't get sucked-in by the bigger numbers ("I want the one with the bigger gee-bees!")
