Hello, starting straight with a question

Dear Capsulers,

a few weeks ago I started playing EVE and so far I am incredibly astonished by this game. I simply can not understand that low playercount. What ever.

I'm here with a kinda weird question. Did anyone see the fantastic TV show "The Expanse"? If so, which fraction would you consider closest to the MCRN fraction? I'd say Caldari, but I am not entirely sure.

Regards

The Expanse is great. While primitive, I agree the MCRN is the closes analog to Caldari on that show. Belters would be Minmatar, and Earth would probably be Gallente. The race behind the protomolecule would probably be the Enheduanni if you really want to dig down into some EvE lore. The Expanse lore is pretty deep too... but it doesn't sound like you read the books I don't want to spoil it by continuing. Suffice it to say The Expanse is just getting started. It gets pretty crazy.

This is one of the best answers ever. Indeed I didn't read The Expanse books yet. Since that TV show opened up so freaking splendid, I decided to literally wait till the entire show ends in a couple of years (hopefully) and get onto the books afterwards.

For EVE, I only read the first book so far (actually at the last 50 pages now).

Thanks for teasing me!

Welcome to EvE!

I started playing in December myself, probably the most feature-rich game I've ever had the pleasure of playing. I hope you stick around, too!

I'd agree with the above, Caldarians and Gallentians originate from the same solar system. The Caldari are very pragmatic, both in ship design and philosophy, so the MCRN is a good approximation, same for the Gallente - Earth, Minnie-OPA parallels, although the Minmatar-Amarr relations perhaps make the OPA label a bit off.

The EvE website has a lore subsection with a lot of reading material, if you'd like to delve into that. It even incorporates player behaviour into the lore by capsuleers being sociopathic demigods war.

Anyways, see you in space :)

'the expanse', eh? Sounds like I'll have to check that out.

I think as far as EvE goes the game came first and any books or anything about it after.

It's a full blown mmorpg. The best stuff in this kind of games requires serious dedication. Nowadays, fewer people are willing to dedicate this much of their time to something they consider "just another game".

Be careful guys. Don't get to attached to The Expanse. It's a really good science fiction show.....which means it will get cancelled.

That show bored me. All of the characters were dull except Jane's character.
It's trying to be good.. but it just comes across s cheesy to me. Reminds me too much of Battlestar where it's try to be edgy and they make up their own words and everyone's melodramatic and theres no real cast chemistry. The military ships are kinda cool but it's just another huge miss for me from sci-fi.
Then there's the blue alien goo, it could have just been a cool crystalline infection like the space version of the last of us fungus but they're trying to make it intelligent.
Just ugh. I have the whole new season recorded on DVR but zero interest in watching it. I dont care about earth, I hate the asteroid hobos, honestly I just want Mars to kill everyone so the show will end lol.

I'd say average at best with a flashy presentation.

The Expanse is a brilliant show that captures the essence of sci-fi. It's a great story with some experienced actors. I like what the US does with their sci-fi shows I can see they finance it well while over here in the UK Doctor Who's budget is probably about £200 per year to finance their cardboard & paper mache set.

That's certainly true. In addition, it gets more and more tedious to move stuff around. In Highsec you have to take serious precautions to not get ganked left and right, which takes a lot of time. In low/nullsec you have to deal with jump fatigue: moving stuff around with already bonused ships (JF/Rorqual) takes a lot longer than it used to be. Moving around unbonused ships for more than 2 jumps like dreads, carriers, etc and you're in a world of hurt.

While I'm enjoying the Expanse greatly, if I had to pick from it's visuals or Dr Who's creative ideas and dialogues for an upcoming sci-fi show, I wouldn't think twice to order a lot of cardboard.

Though they should extreminate the Dalek forever. They looked pretty dated... in the 90's.

EVE is a disgustingly deep game with rich lore and richer gameplay elements. There is no sci-fi TV show made in the last few decades that comes close to it.

However, I did catch the first episode of The Expanse a while back, it seemed quite fun, and I'll probably watch the rest at some point in the future.

Well I mean compared to doctor who sure, the expanse is fantastic.
But that's an exceedingly low bar to measure from. Dr who is like the lowest quality thing I've ever seen on TV.

Only two people I recognized on expanse was Jane, and the younger brother from Royal pains with the curly hair who.. Well he was strapped into the chair when the little meteorite or whatever shot through the ship.

I've never found a sci-fi show on TV I've really liked. Stargate was good if a little silly.
Firefly was okay but not serious enough.
Star trek is always low budget with cheesy aliens with butt foreheads. Starwars has only made animated series and that's a kids franchise.
It's an underrepresented genre.
