I'd like to reopen this thread for further discussion as i've often wished just this and i don't feel it has been fully explored yet as an idea.

TLDR:
- Remove individual racial ECM mods and allow the multispec to be racially scripted instead.
- Decrease ECM buffs on ECM boats. (maybe)

The reason for this change:
Too often i leave from my staging point in my rook with the rest of my fleet only to get 1-5 jumps from destination only to realise that the hostiles have switched comp and my racial jams will no longer be at all effective. It's too far to go back to refit, and unless i fit a mobile depot i find that my jams are next to useless. It's a RTD (roll the dice) before the fight even starts and the real RTD begins, over and over and over every 20 seconds.

No other ewar depends on at minimum a 90 second refit time associated with dropping a depot and waiting for it to online, then refitting and scooping. Not to mention the cost of having to carry said depot and refit mods as well as the fact you have to find a safe spot; leaving grid, and the risk of being probed.

I agree an instant script change would be OP, being able to cycle down and change scripts like frequency crystals. the implications of that much versatility in fights would be quite a game changer.

Instead we allow ECM the ability to enter any fight with the same level of readiness as all other ECM. To that end i propose the addition of a reload timer on script change or even the inability to change scripts with the weapons timer.
This will mean that ECM can be set up before a fight but is locked in that configuration unless it disengages for at least 60 seconds or more.

Can we have real some discussion on this, the RTD is high already on ECM once you get into the fight; as it should be, but we shouldn't have to RTD twice.

Why not just run multispecs by default? I tend to for the ease of rapid response, and generally, unless it's something like T3s or large class hulls, it's more than enough. Granted, if you have a general idea of what logi type your enemy's using, that kinda limits the hard choices down to 2.

Uh. Because the racial is easier to fire, easier to fit, longer range, and superior to each ship type.

Scriptable ECM would be really nice for ECM ships, but I have to admit that it would probably be OP. With current balance, anyway.

What might help, is if each ship had a sensor slot. An empty slot would behave as normal. A T1 module in the slot would shift the ship sensors to a different race at a penalty. A T2 module in that slot would have a lesser penalty.

And we need a way to TELL- have some visual cue to tell pilots what kind of sensors someone is using. So intel would be VERY useful, as you could see what sensors a bunch of people are running.

And hey, put a scriptable module in that slot for more penalty, but the ability to switch on the fly. This throws a bunch of wrenches into everyone's gears. Everyone gets more complicated options, and yet, can just ignore it and it doesn't really change much. A full rack of jams is probably going to work regardless, but jamming different ships with optimal scripts would get even trickier.

  • The ability for a fleet to flag ships with sensor types would be useful.
  • Jammers could switch jams based on this intel.
  • Fleets could also switch sensors, with depots or lesser-strength scripted sensors.
  • How about this: a 25m3 targeting drone, that adds +1 to locked target maximum regardless of ECM, unless the drone itself is jammed (or killed, obviously).

Or it could be argued that this is all just complexity for the sake of complexity. Maybe baby steps with a frigate-only scripted ECM? See how that works?

Multispecs are ok vs frig and destroyer class ships, but next to useless vs cruisers and above, even on a griffin or rook.
Racials on a rook are still effective up to battlecruiser class.
