Multiplexing/Input Automation : Take 2

@CCP - in 2013 the use of multiplexing programs to multiplex(Simultaneous input to multiple client windows) was banned from eve online. Myself and other players have reported the same multiplexer for weeks, with no action taken by CCP. This is NOT a difficult issue to detect. You have multiple accounts attached to the same IP address, all entering commands within miliseconds of one another. This is an easily scriptable/detectable exploit. So why is this sitting in limbo? Why are certain players being allowed to break the rules, while others obey them.

Either A.) Put in the effort to stop people from multiplexing, or B.) Just allow everyone to do it.

I honestly don't care which option is chosen, but it's very frustrating to follow the rules while watching those that don't get away with it. I have reported 42 different accounts to security@ccpgames.com in the last week. Yet no action has been taken. What's the deal?

Playing devils advocate for the aforementioned accused ( and I don't like codies ) . I can legally run five accounts spread over three monitors. Does not slow my cpu down. If I closed some windows and fleeted extra toons I could possibly run another five without too much fuss.

It's not a matter of 'running the accounts'. I could run 20+ clients as well. But could you within 1 second, have all 5 of those accounts lock the same target and fire? How about 10-20 accounts? It's fairly obvious when someone is multiplexing vs just dual/triple boxing.

It's possible there's a snag or maybe this particular case hasn't been fully investigated yet. Posting about here, though, does little good. Only thing you can do is what you already have. It's up to CCP as to how they want to handle it or even if anything needs to be done. Report it and move on, but getting huffy about it on the forums is not only more a waste or your time but also borderline against the rules in and of itself. All this does is encourage more people to do this as it makes it appear that they can easily get away with it since "CCP doesn't seem to care," while it might just be that they simply haven't hit every step yet.

As I said in my original post, I really don't care if players multiplex or not. Personally I would like the ability to do it myself in fact. I however do care if CCP is going to make rules, then enforce them only sometimes. From the cases I've seen it seems like multiplexing miners on twitch get banned, and multiplexing HS freighter gankers do not. It has been well over a month of this activity from this specific player. It does not take a month to review log files.

I also can completely understand that CCP has a finite amount of resources at its disposal. So if the answer is "we don't have the time", then change the rules to allow mutliplexing, and let all players be equal.

a week seems like a short time frame for that kind of investigation, it is also possible they want to study those accounts and do a mass ban at some future point. I remember tons of people claiming they were wrongfully banned a while back, doesn't seem like something CCP wants to hand out lightly.

1) Having multiple clients open (with or without particular 3rd party programs) is called multiboxing not multiplexing. Simultaneous input across accounts is now called input broadcasting. Automating input is called input automation.

2) Input automation/broadcasting is banned, multiboxing is not. Same programs can offer both functionalities. Its not a matter of what program you use. You shouldn't automate or broadcast input.

3) Yeah CCP should be more vigilant to combat input broadcasters a pursue reports. Maybe they don't prioritize these people because being the active accounts they are, they are a source of income? But I genuinely think these people hurt the game, especially the economy, especially when they bot anomalies for ISK. At any rate I think CCP should prioritize them more.

There might be something interesting you could do with a lot of touchscreen monitors. Not sure what it would be, because I don't have a lot of touchscreen monitors. The ability to tap on a screen directly instead of mousing would present options, but it would take some testing to find out if they were useful. Keyboard is still useful.

Touchscreens might also present interesting options in more conventional MMOs, where you have a bunch of quickbars full of meaningful abilities, but most people don't have touchscreens, so...

Yeah but my point here is CCP isn't doing anything about it. They aren't "handling" it.

If you feel someone is breaking the rules, please report it via the proper channels.

Don't complain on the forums about it, as this won't solve anything.

Typically, this is investigated thoroughly before any bans are issued, so bear with the security team and they'll look into it.

Also, don't re-open locked threads.
