Salvaging Mini-Game

Everyone who has salvaged knows that it is boring to say the least. But what if a Mini-Game was developed involving salvaging to make salvaging more exciting.

The Salvaging Mini-Game would work basically the same as the Data Mini-Game. The only difference would be the layout. Instead of a circuit board you would be presented with boards depicting a certain section of the ship which would be as follows:

1.Structural
2.Propulsion
3.Electronics
4.Offensive Systems
5.Defensive Systems

Depending on the section that your specialized salvager locked onto would determine which section you would salvage. A T2 specialized salvager could be loaded with a script that would allow you to then focus on a certain area of your choice.

The salvaging mini-game would have tools that you could collect that would help you cut through barriers in reaching the core of the wreck section where you would then have to defeat the core in order to receive the loot.

Such barriers could be sealed hulls and debris that would require simple torch use to cut through up to points of radiation leaks that would make the wreck un-salvageable after so many turns unless a special field was used to contain the radiation leak

Each successful salvage would generate more salvage loot based on the section salvaged then you would normally receive.

Not all salvage would be able to be salvaged in the manner above and would generate randomly from normal ship wrecks.

For example for every twenty NPC wrecks in a system five specialized salvage wrecks would spawn randomly. For a site with more than twenty ships a specialized salvage wreck would spawn every ten wrecks.

Specialized salvage wrecks would spawn less frequently in the belts, slightly more in mission sites and more in scanned sites from the scanner.

The location where the specialized salvage wreck spawns would also play a factor into how much additional salvage was received.

High Sector - ten to twenty low end salvage loot
Low Sector - ten to twenty mid grade salvage loot
0.0 - five to ten high end grade salvage loot
-.1 and below - five to ten top grade salvage loot.

Wormhole space would not be part of the specialized salvage as the Sleeper ships would be difficult to salvage using even the T2 Specialized Salvager and Script due to their intricate hulls and systems.

Data and relic sites work for hacking because there's only 6 cans per site.

Salvaging a combat site or mission site can results in >100 wrecks.

This suggestion is more likely to **** everyone off, not make it more exciting. It would be tedious and boring.

In addition, looting in PvP can be useful. For example to resupply cap boosters and nanite paste. Having to hack while fighting would be impossible and would only take away from the game, not add to it.

Agreed with Scipio on all points.

Plus if you're in a dedicated salvaging ship like a Noctis there should be very little downtime where you aren't either picking out a new wreck, looting, or juggling around salvagers and tractor beams. Salvaging doesn't need another thing for pilots to juggle.

Sealed hulls is a interesting idea and not all ideas should be down voted just because of one drawback i.e. No looted paste and boosters as this is a chance drop anyways

If it was random and Was fun and did include a chance to get some decent rare loot then it's worth it imo ...but I am against it just being another hacking type game and should require a new mechanic or module #make salvaging fun not the chore it is

I F***** hate mini games. There should be less, not more!

The spawn mechanic would be random and could not be farmed.

Hunting down the specialized wrecks would be like hunting down Angel Cartel sites during the yearly events.

Maybe in face make it a yearly event that lasts four weeks long.

The same type of yearly event and mini-game could also be incorporate into roid and ice mining as well as gas harvesting.

Or make them into probe sites that could only be found using a probe launcher to keep the spawns from populating in the roid belts and cluttering the belts up.

Oh Dryson,
please!!!

It is

- highsec = High (zero) Security Space

- lowsec = Low (none) Security Space

- nullsec = Zero (high) Security Space

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

For missions: No. Too many wrecks.

For special-situations: Maybe. If there was a site with 1-4 special wrecks that had minigames, it could be interesting, without being boring.

This exactly. I do like the idea of new minigames, and your suggestion has merit for something new - but I wouldn't want it to replace salvaging because that would be tedious.

This could be good for perhaps a new kind of scannable site for example where you have to maybe tank NPCs while you hack or something.

Nope. What I WOULD like to see, however, is with, either a noctis or t2 salvagers (or both), a low chance of being able to excise blue salvage from wrecks, regardless of tech level. I mean, t2 wrecks are just as burnt and vaporized as t1 wrecks, so why not have a chance, even if small (say, 1% per skill level, so 5% chance total) to retrieve T2 salvage off a wreck that isnt t2?

Wouldn't this make salvaging kind of redundant with relic sites? Except this time you won't have a chance to find something really useful/valuable?

If you want an intelligent argument, please do, I'm up for it!

But if you want a trolling contest, I will win it by simply not participating.

As a dedicated salvage pilot for a group that likes to day trip into worm holes, and considering that currently I have to dodge the sleepers they miss, the residents of the worm hole that do not want us to be there, and others that are day tripping there looking for kills the last thing I need is an idiotic mini-game to slow me down even further.

Even in high sec the last thing I need / want when salvaging missions / sites for corp mates / new players is an idiotic mini game to have to deal with.

Like some of the others there is some merit in your idea if it was used to create a new type of site to play around in, but to apply it to all salvage operations no thank you.
