Not sure about those other spaces, but if you do exploration in Highsec you obviously need a mining permit and follow the New Halaima Code of Conduct.

as clearing a site makes it respawn somewhere near you, its in your own interest to clear it as it may spawn in the next system you visit

No etiquette.
Completely depends on your own preference.

As poster above, it can be considered in your own interest to clear a site, so it might respawn nearby.
However leaving it incomplete, can create content, if you are creative.

Speaking/contacting others in Local can be extremely beneficial, but also lead to absolute disaster.

Leaving a site to someone else running it will earn you nothing.
They wont thank you, and you are competition, even if you dont invade their site.
Weigh the risk of competing against your capacity to do so.

3rd option: Train into an Astero, and you massively open your options.

Depends a lot on where you are doing the exploration.
High Sec, Low Sec and NPC nul - screw everybody else and do your own thing.
Ninja nul sec - don't ask, don't tell! Do the stuff as fast as you can cherry pick if you have to, but I like killing the sites so another spawns.
Friendly nul - I don't bother asking unless I am specifically in a system I've been told to bugger off and leave the sites for the locals. Then I only do sites in that system if I have an escalation. If there are friendlies in systems, I don't bother scanning at all and push on.
Wormholes - do anything in your power to stay alive. For me that usually means I want an empty system and I will run every site and cherry pick cans leaving at least one alone, start the clocks on all the gas sites, look for anything not nailed down and take it (I get a lot of drones this way Smile).

You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friends nose. Unless you podded them...and collected their corpse.

This is the only rule that applies.

Do unto others before they do unto you.

If you're in wormhole space definitely declare your intent and any local residents might leave you alone. Although if you hear nothing in response, it's not because there's nobody there, but because Toby or Bob of whoever ate your words and is looking to eat your ship and pod too.

  • If I jump in and someone is looting the site should I stay or should I go?

Thanks!

Negative sir, there's no real 'etiquette'. Just keep things civil if stuff goes pear-shaped.

Please hack the cans at your leisure, though feel free to announce your presence in local if you'd like.

Remember to watch out for smartbombing Proteus, sensor boosted Lokis and redheads in wormholes.

1. This is how you get shot. If you show up in a cloaky ship, you might be an explorer or hotdropper. If they think you're a hotdropper, they're either going to dock up or bait you into a counter-drop. Neither are effective methods to kill an explorer. Keep them guessing.
2. I've seen some people in Signal Cartel chat report the locations of Sleeper caches, but not really anything else. I guess you could if you feel nice, but keep in mind that every bit of loot pulled from a site slightly devalues your own loot.
3. If he's blue to you, my rule is first person in the site has rights to the whole site, and he may share it at his leisure. If he's not, I encourage you to find some way to drive him off or murder him. If you want to be peaceful that's your choice, but don't expect the same from everyone else.

I'm going to build a big wall that will keep the Gallente out, and they're going to pay for it!

If you daytrip in a wormhole, there are a few steps you can take to maximize isk/hour and reduce the chance of a gank:
-Create a safe spot. Create multiple if you are an alpha and can't use cloak.
-Never use local chat.
-Cherry-pick your sites. The more time you spend with your cloak off, the more people will notice. Also, not wasting time on hacking low-value cans increase isk/hour. Alternatively, hack everything and lose the cargo scanner for a Pinpointing/Rangefinding Array to speed up scanning.
-Invest in Sisters Core Scanner Probes. They are cheap and speed things up a lot.
-Don't reload your probe launcher when jumping a hole/using a gate/docking. You may lose your probes.
-Stop scanning signatures which you aren't interested in as soon as you are able to determine what type of signature it is (gas/wormholes, maybe data sites if you are picky like that). Put them on the ignore list to clear up your scan window.
-Don't warp to sites with active ships/extra probes on dscan.
-Keep in mind that ships left unpiloted behind a POS still show up on your scanner, but you should scout around and find these ships to make sure. Copy the naming pattern of these ships if there is one to confuse people coming in after you.
-Don't drop depots unless necessary, and don't leave them at your safe (this is if you are running sleeper relic sites in a Stratios with the "keep 1 sleeper alive" method). Depots/MTUs are easier to combat scan than ships.
-Spam dscan, keep it in a separate window.
-If you see combat scanners, warp to your safe and cloak up, then exfil.
-If you are an alpha and you see combat scanners, you should have multiple safes which you can use to bounce around if necessary. Warp to a safe that is in dscan range of your return hole, and do a 5° scan towards it. If you see a dic/hic, bounce around until they get bored. When the hole is clear, exfil.
-Turn off dynamic music. Wormhole music sounds like Darth Vader sitting on the toilet.

As for etiquette, everyone who isn't your friend is out to get you. Cherry picking is okay because nobody knows who you are anyway. If you explore with friends, just come to an agreement between yourselves.

Happy hunting!

When doing sites in hisec i show respect and warp off, giving an 07 in local, if someone is doing the site i warp into. Even if i know they are what the crazies would call "site thieves". If they wanna race for the spawn im already workin on. Challenge accepted.

For every other situation I continue doing whatever I'm doing as i approach the would be hostile with the cynorazu.

Quietly.

Signatures wer cooler when we couldn't remove them completely.
