Thinking of Playing Again. How's PvP (non-alliance) these days?

Was just getting the urge to play EVE again. What led me to quit so many times before in the past was how boring PvP got. Flying around for hours to possibly get 1 good fight. Going days without 1 good fight. Zero incentive to PvP except for the sake of it because you can make more isk sitting in Jita making buy/sell orders. Typically, finding fights was easy enough if you wanted to run into a gate camp or any other situation you had 0 chance of surviving but everyone knew about every potential fight you could have that no one ever engaged in because of local chat and scouts. This just led to flying around never actually engaging anyone.

Just wondering if the state of PvP has changed at all? Could I casually play maybe a couple hours a night and find a good fight? Possibly even a rewarding fight? One where I'm stealing someone's loot, cargo, or something that made it worthwhile other then potentially the satisfaction of destroying someone's insured ship?

Because if there's no good PvP then all EVE will turn into is a isk/per/hour spreadsheet micro-management game.

What's it like these days with all the additions?

Not that much, but just fly to some of the active lowsec FW zones and you will normally find some fights pretty fast. You will get blobbed from time to time, but that is part of the game so GF them in local anyway. It can also pay off to find out where the hotspots of FW deployment are (Which systems are they fighting over??). Those will be more active

I'm surprised CODE hasn't posted yet saying there's lot's of PvP action available in high sec space.

Roll

Anyway, there's Faction Warfare and I believe Red v Blue is back active again. Might be able to find some good fights there. Oh yeah, I forgot you're looking for non-alliance PvP action.

Well, I hope you start playing again and wish you the best of luck.

Don't bother pvp if you don't feel like roaming for hours for a fight. You could FW but that is beyond boring imo.

Go play csgo, playerunknown battleground or other games for more instant fun

From my experience your memories are still pretty valid... May not be the same everywhere or for everyone but for me it is.

Depends on your definition of 'good pvp' of course. By my definition, I keep having it all the time. Often even without undocking, sometimes even without launching the client.

By your definition, I probably never had it.

I run sites in a PvP Gila and let the PvP come to me. It's very rare.

Don't bother with PvP if you don't enjoy running 3+ accounts simultaneously

I left for the exact reason as did my friends. Years later i'm the only one that came back. Pretty much still the same. Wormholes seem to be the best source to finding something, it's not gonna be even, your going to decloak and gank the hell out of something. The days of Battle Cruiser brawls back then were awesome! Fights lasted a while. Anymore its frigates, 10-20sec later its over, hours of looking for that. Coming back I didn't expect much, I tried Faction war, but learned Blues shoot blues within a few hours of joining. Figured why join FW when I can be neut to everyone and fly anywhere I want without standing punishment?

I adapted and decided to try the indy side of things, so far it's been keeping me entertained. When I need a break I cruise some WH's, once in a great while I find something. Blob content is always there, but you don't have to tell me it's not the same thing. There is a market for this style of play but with games with a older average age bracket ego gets in the way of good content and prevents it. I'd dabble in a couple things and see if it interests you. I found quite a few replacement things that keeps me entertained, certainly not to the level of the solo PVP back in the day but worth subbing for.

Biggest change for solo/small gang players is the change to links, which now require the boost ship to be on-grid.

Links are nowhere near the issue they were previously.

The second largest change has been the legalisation of boosters in highsec, which has massively improved the market and availability of drugs.

Those two changes alone have made a lot of solo, small gang pvp more enjoyable and if you go up solo against someone now, it is truly solo, since they can't gain assistance from off grid (not preaching here. I had a full skills links alt myself, but now almost never fly with links at all).

There has been a lot of changes in the meta which now favours destroyers and cruisers and then capitals. There's still other ships flying around, but look to train into T3 Destroyers. The faction frigates can be fun. Kiting is king, but brawling is still viable.

Overall, my opinion is pvp is fine and in a good place if you want to go find it, but that's just an opinion, no more valuable or factual than any others that differ.

trying to figure out when you last played because I'm pretty sure people have been making the same complaints for all 10 years I've been playing Eve, and all 10 years I have seen many successful solo and small gang pilots. Pretty much every roam I ever went on resulted in pvp much of it was even pretty fair.

Lowsec is pretty much alive, lot's of targets solo or fleet ... though I miss the times of hunting Stealth Bombers in mission sites all day with my trusty Taranis.
