From an immersion perspective, it would make much more sense to call the single currency, Aurum.
Aurum was introduced when the New Eden Store was introduced to purchase items and it sounds like a currency and acts like a currency.

To call the currency PLEX and to use it to purchase items now, it now means these PLEX "tokens" will be doing something more than their name implies or describe: Pilot's License EXtension.

We call money the dollar, or the Euro, we don't name it after something we purchase with it.

I really think it would sound better if it was called Aurum and not PLEX.

I agree,
having something called Pilot License Extension being the core premium currency for buying skins etc... makes no sense..
Hell I'd be ok with naming it something completely different too I just don't want plex to be the name of the premium currency because it doesn't make sense to trade pilot licenses for skins.

I believe it will now stand for Plucky Little E-commerce eXchange

Big smile

But yeah, I agree it might be better to name the new currency Aurum.

Aurum was not well received when it was introduced, the expansion that introduced it was one of the most controversial things that CCP have ever done, it lead to the summer of rage and a change of direction for CCP.

Historically aurum is a poison chalice, because of everything associated with it.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

And yet, we ultimately accepted it, and no one would say get rid of SKINs....

Calling a currency PLEX when PLEX stands for something specific is stupid.

Also, all those people that cried about Aurum were clearly wrong. If they had been right, then sure, I would see that as a valid reason not to entertain keeping the word. They cried for nothing because they thought they knew better: CCP was vindicated in their progression. Injectors were decried as well, and once again, everyone was wrong.

Removing PLEX as a thing and a concept from the game is even more stupid. PLEX is the term used in all the various videos, guides, and CCP's own promotional material. The primary use of this stuff is still as a Pilot's Licence.

PLEX is a part of Eve's history, vernacular, and culture. AURUM has no such affinity or fondness among the playerbase.

As you yourself noted this thread has basically gotten zero traction. No one cares if it's called PLEX, but I bet a lot of people would care if CCP did away with PLEX entirely.

Considering any mention of "Pilot's License Extension" will be removed from the description and name, then the point is moot.

No one really cares what it is called. Calling it aurum would however simply be inconsistent confusing and just pointless.

Global currencies originally were simply promissory notes based on gold or silver. On that basis Who cares what plex was originally based on. They certainly aren't now.
