Putting aside the sound thing and the idea that cynos aren't a portal (why is everyone so ******* fixated? who cares) - I could get behind making cynos a much more impressive and larger effect. Definitely.

Except the rear side shouldn't show ship innards like HW did.

I still like the original jump effects from 2005 far more than anything new, so far.

GAIZ let me clarify,

I am not suggesting that the animation be bigger-er & longer-er. I only think that perhaps an adjustment to make the effect look more modern & threatening in addition to a drastic upgrade to the sound effect currently used would benefit the overall effect.

If I had to choose only 1 I would go with the sound of course. The current effect does not look bad. But the sound it emits makes me think of a tiny stapler. It's pathetic. A more explosive or time-space thundering bellow would fit the event much better.

This could of course be accompanied by its own volume meter in the settings for pilots triggered by too much science fiction in their sound effects.

It already is a huge, loud, explosive, ear bursting noise if there are more than about five caps going at once. Any louder and someone is going to sue CCP for the hearing loss incurred every time a cap fleet does anything.

That's why it could be given its own volume slider in settings window. The sound can be improved to something more impressive & epic whilst giving control of its volume to ensure it is not overwhelming.

What's the point of making something louder and more impressive if it's absolutely mandatory to mute it?

Who said it's mandatory to mute it?

Everyone who has ever been in a fleet with more than a handful of caps, as I've said several times.

Some of us have investigated the UI beyond the mandatory righ-click context menu's and pressing the occasional F1 when commanded, to find a shitload of audio sub controls to make the various sounds less intrusive when needed.

It's not just cynos. CCP did a good job with the new explosions and more recently, stars, but I think there a few more effects in eve that could use a touch up.

Gates, for instance, could have an animation where instead of the puff of photons we get now, there could be a streamer of bright and/or distorted light from the ship being transported, getting sucked into the gate. Same sort of thing could go for wormholes.

Also the acceleration gate could have an animation a bit like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UyQBBhJ4mg
in which a streamer of energy jumps out from the beam and sort of flings the ship along the length of the gate. This could also be used on things with the same effect as the acceleration gate, like the sleeper cache's strange rift.
