Noob question:

I have been very interested in playing some Eve Online again, I tried it many years ago but because of external factors I didn't make it too far.

As a Canadian customer I compared the subscription prices between the CCP website ($US) and Steam ($CAD) and there is a difference, not that great but expected. Details below (apologies for formatting)

CCP prices - American dollars
Months.....$US/mo.....$US Total..... $CAD Total CCP
1................$14.95.......$14.95............$20.06
3................$12.95.......$38.85............$52.13
6................$11.95.......$71.70............$96.21
12..............$10.95.......$131.40.........$176.33

Steam prices - Canadian dollars
Months...$CAD/mo......$CAD Total Steam..........Diff ($CAD Total CCP - $CAD Total Steam)
1..............$16.99...........$16.99...........................$3.07
3..............$14.33...........$42.99...........................$9.14
6..............$13.16...........$78.99...........................$17.22
12............$12.16...........$145.99.........................$30.34

Conversion: 1 USD = 1.34190 CAD (xe.com), 2 digit rounding.

If I decide to use Steam for the savings, having some Steam balance, etc; what are the drawbacks of using Steam?

As far as I understand in Steam:
- I can only have Eve Online account per Steam account.
- If Steam is down I can still access the game (https://support.eveonline.com/hc/en-us/articles/203523662-Setting-an-account-name-for-Accounts-created-through-STEAM)
- Not supporting CCP directly as Steam takes a cut.

Are there any other things to consider? Any of you out there in a similar situation ... what did you end up doing?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you.

As far as I know, there are none.

You don't even need to login through STEAM:

However, I've not considered things like multiple accounts. No idea how that works with STEAM.

For what it is worth, I have 4 annually subscribed EvE accounts. I don't use STEAM. I am Canadian. I've been playing EvE for over 8 years now.

there no limits or problems you find with steam you can even link non steam accounts i use my steam account and the other 2 accounts are not steam ,1 account is inactive are non steam .

when you need to sign into forums or ccp management , you have to use the user name and password you login into steam
so you should not have any problems . been playing for a few years like this and havent had any problems .

Cool!

Thanks for the replies.

Had no idea you could log on with a non-steam account, that is awesome.

Thanks again!

Ccp often gives special deals though, like skins and free multichar training.

Those are usually worth more than the amount you save using steam.
