Is the MERC occupation Dead ?

Is there a Real Merc corp that only runs with contracts ?
Or are the majority off their wars against corps that they have PID'ed a high value TGT ?
Do they actually hunt a specific TGT corp or is it any war TGT that a neutral scout locates ?
Are so called potection contracts more extortion, you pay a potection fee and we won't war dec you ?
Just asking if the term MERC is to easily branded about nowadays ?

If merc's only ran on contracts alone it would be a very boring corp.

Generally per every 30 or so wardecs you will have 1 contracted dec in them.

Contacts vary wildly from contractor to contractor. Some request the corpse of a certain member inside the corp. Some don't it depends but assassinations are not out of place.

Yes corp will hunt targets down, both contracted and not. Every corp does it differently. Some will send out scouts check area's that they know the Wartargets will be. Others will watch pipelines and population hubs and follow wartarget back home. However if you request targets to be killed, Most Merc's (The older ones) will put in the effort to find them, although with the watchlist change this has made it more difficult.


No and yes. If you pay a monthly fee to a Merc, you will not be decced by other mercs. They will communicate with their blue's if a dec does happen to land. Ask them to surrender, normally they will. If not the Merc corp will ally in as per the contract. However if you are a **** to your protectors they will (and have before) turn on you.

And yes the Merc is easily branded, but new one's tend to get ran through hell's fire, when they start up so they fall off quickly.

To expand a bit on what Valkin said.. The merc business is still alive and well. Due to the changes in game mechanics, things have had to change and mercs have had to adapt. For the true mercs, this hasn't been too much of a problem, though it has definitely had an impact on the ways business is conducted. Targets hide..they run..they turtle up as they've always done..but more so now it seems. The watchlist loss hurt hunting..but it did not kill it. As a particular merc we all know well has said.."adapt or die". Mercs are something that will always be a part of Eve in one form or another. The mercs of today are only the adaptation to the circumstances forced upon us. We will evolve as any strong entity in the Eve universe does.

If I had a nickel for every time someone said women don't play eve, I'd have a bag of nickels to whack the next person who said it..

Hi there.
Old school Mercs, there's only a handful of us left but we are about.
Last I'd heard public enemy were also still active hunters and they're always going to get an endorsement from me.

Currently there's a lot of frustrating work associated with Targeted and direct hunting and the chances of burnout are high.

Check our alliance description thingy for contacts.

Edit: in answer to your question though, even old school Mercs pretty much always have a couple of "LoL" wars on the go to keep everyone entertained.

Pod repo ust to exist to do contracts​ at base price of the war Dec fee... But the rest of the Corp took a break from eve because content got stale or would need 10 times the neutral logi as the amount in their fleet.

And the existing Blue Donut between the blanket Dec alliances is boring.

The watchlist changes pretty much killed small merc corp gameplay, tho.

Now its structure bashing or emplacing spais to make sure you know when your target(s) is online.

Yes mercs are alive and kicking. My definition of a merc is simple. If you get paid to fight or not fight as the case maybe you a Mercenary. So what if you have content and other activities on the side.

That doesn't necessaily indicate the merc occupation is alive, by far. Just means there could be a higher possibility that more mercs are sat twiddling their thumbs and posting on the forum instead of out hunting wts. P

Marmite has been called anything you can imagine. We're still here, still number 9 ranked killer all time on ZKB, still has the most kills / isks dmg done of all merc alliances, still have the most non trade hub kills (2016+) and still having fun (even after 25k wars and 33 trillion killed).

TLDR : We hunt, you die ! Twisted
