I think that the fact that the dev blog is not out yet means they are re thinking it and might pull some of the changes.

If i dont know something about EVE. I check https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/ISK_The_Guide

See you around the universe.

Really not liking the use of mjolnir for EM damage; it literally means 'crushing'. It's more apt for the kinetic missile than anything (although I love "Trauma", personally).

That and it's kind of a huge pain in the ass to type into the market search. The other stuff is pretty clear, but some rethinking on the "mjolnir" name, as awesome as it is would be appreciated. Why not something like "Flash" or "Torrent"/"Thunderbolt" if you want to stick with the current pool of names? Anything that makes the player think of water (or something blue) would do the job nicely. "Shock"? "Glacier"?

You guys got any other suggestions that would be suitable?

(I understand the irony/implications of me being in the Sons of 0din corporation and posting my opposition to this, incidentally.)

Hi guys. The dev blog will be coming very soon (next week, most likely), but in the meantime here are a few clarifications on concerns raised in this thread.

First off, besides the missiles we're not changing any ammo names. Missiles are the only ammo type that has 1) no mixed damage output and 2) separate names independent of size class, and thus the only ammo type that was deemed to benefit from name streamlining.

Second, not every module in the game is getting its name changed. We're taking this slowly, aiming to change only those modules where there could be unnecessary confusion about the item's function or its place in the meta hierarchy. The point is to minimize extra Show Info clicks as much as possible, in our continuing effort to make EVE more streamlined and (dare I say it) intuitive. Despite what many of you appear to think, it is absolutely not our goal to dumb the game down. We will make every effort to retain flavor while achieving the level of functionality we aspire to.

The dev blog will contain a list of the modules and items slated for change in the coming months. It's not as extensive as you might think or fear - it currently covers, most notably, meta level 1-4 modules (with some exceptions), hardwiring, missile launchers and lasers.

We'll continue to monitor this thread (and the dev blog's comment thread, when it comes out). All well-reasoned, constructive feedback will be taken into consideration. CobaltSixty's post on Page 7 of this thread is a great example of just this; those suggestions will be incorporated into the meta scheme as we continue the project. Thanks, Cobalt.

Hope this allays some of your concerns. Keep 'em peeled for the dev blog.

ah. consider a namechange for small lasers with "medium" in the name.

medium (size) laser have "heavy"
large (size) laser have "mega"
as modifier - thats fine

only problem are the small lasers called medium

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

That's very good to hear.

It would, however, be much better if this kind of thing was said in the original messages, rather than wait for all hell to break loose before trying to calm things down again.

If you tell us why you are changing things and what you want to achieve by doing it, we'll understand better. And hopefully not get too carried away with complaining about things which might not happen.

Hooray! Thanks CCP Gnauton, I'm thrilled to have my suggestions make it into your plans for optimizing item names - especially something as ubiquitous as speed modules.

At the risk of looking a gift horse in the mouth, can I ask what your thoughts are on separating the names for missile damage types as suggested in my post on Page 5 of this thread? Whether or not any of the specific names from the example are used, I think it would be beneficial for the two groups (guided and unguided) to have unique names. This would bring the total of unique missile ammo names to eight (identical to turret ammo) while still allowing for commonality across multiple size classes. In my opinion, the way missiles are currently named on Sisi yields far too many results in the market window when searching for Nova, Trauma, Inferno or Mjolnir.

Thanks again for stopping by and clarifying your intentions for us.

This is why it's a good idea to save fittings according to the module ID, not the name. :)

A naming scheme suggestion for EWAR modules:

Meta 0: [module name] I
Meta 1: Parallel [module name]
Meta 2: Subversive [module name]
Meta 3: Induced [module name]
Meta 4: Phased [module name]
Meta 5: [module name] II
Meta 6: Piercing [module name] (COSMOS item)
Meta 7: Patterned (COSMOS item)

It takes some names from existing EWAR modules so most will be familiar. I tried to avoid picking names of commonly used modules so that there are no "false friends".

Meta 0 Tracking Disruptor
Tracking Disruptor I

Meta 1 Phase Inverter (LADAR jammer)
Parallel Phase Inverter

Meta 2 Sensor Dampener
Subversive Sensor Dampener

Meta 5 Stasis Webifier
Stasis Webifier II

etc.

Which modules should be affected? All offensive EWAR modules. ECM of all types, Stasis Webifiers, Warp Scramblers, Warp Disruptor, Tracking Disruptors, Target Painters, Sensor Dampeners. Also Signal Distortion Amplifiers because they currently take names from ECM modules which they improve.

On second though, the COSMOS items could be differentiated further. Perhaps like this?
Meta 6: 'Hypnos' [module name]
Meta 7: 'Cetus' [module name]

Can we still protest this? Requoting my two favourite arguments below ;)

Let's just drop all the "weird" names and just call them "Kinetic Rocket", "Thermal Rocket", etc? Why even BOTHER having a name if you're going to take that perspective and view point? Who needs some actual intrigue in a game like EVE. You know, it's not like after 8 years we've all gotten used to these names or anything.

I think these are pretty petty changes and inconsistent reasoning behind it. The names conveyed a sense of scale, not only of "damage type".

Thorn Rockets, Bloodclaw Light Missiles, Scourge Heavy Missile, Terror Assault Missile, Wrath Cruise Missile, Juggernaut Torpedo, Rift Citadel Cruise Missile, Rajas Citadel Torpedo

You know how much of a PAIN IN THE ASS it's going to be to find your "Mjolnir Rockets" under all 80 faction ammo types?

I think you're being pretty short sighted about this.

SEARCH MARKET BAR : Mjolnir (Expecting torpedos) and OMFGWTF ensues...

Caldari Navy Mjolnir Cruise Missile
Caldari Navy Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
Caldari Navy Mjolnir Heavy Missile
Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Caldari Navy Mjolnir Rocket
Caldari Navy Mjolnir Torpedo

Dread Guristas Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile

So now, if I want to find my EMP Torpedoes, instead of being able to type the the one name I know identifies the missile I am assaulted with another 100 missiles I DON'T want. Oh, and btw. It's at the BOTTOM of the list. Alphabetically.

But hey, as long as MJOLNIR means EMP, right?

How's this supposed to help again?

Missile name changes have to be the most pointless change in ages. (more pointless than even the monocle)

as it seems, you didnt find the feedbacks in this thread constructive or well-reasoned enough :(
From the Patch notes:
"In order to simplify the naming system in EVE, the following changes have been made to Weapons & Ammunition:
All EM missiles will now have the name ‘Mjolnir’.
All Thermal missiles will now have the name ‘Inferno’.
All Kinetic missiles will now have the name ‘Trauma’.
All Explosive missiles will now have the name ‘Nova’."

I feel this change actually causes MORE confusion due to the sheer number of different missiles that do the same type of damage (the only ones you probably won't see are the F.O.F's which escaped the "Ministry of silly names" assault squad for now, probably due to the fact that almost no-one uses them).

I might even start firing just FOF's for any ship I use that has launchers as a protest to this name changing (yes it will bork up the damage output and I won't be able to control what I hit with them but that's not the point).
