Heya,

I'm going to Zurich for a three-month intern ship starting feb 2nd, and I'm looking for interesting things to see/do in town and maybe people to meet up with. Any takers? :)

Mind if I ask you a few questions?

What's the Swiss attitude towards cyclists / skaters? I'm thinking of bringing my longboard with me so I don't have to use the bus to get to uni every day but I want to know if its safe. And what's a cheap supermarket in Switzerland?

Cyclists / skaters:

You will probably find Switzerland a heaven. Lots of people using the bike and plenty of skaters present. Concerning safety:
My children use either the bike or a kickboard to go to school and although there is more traffic in the city I would consider it safe enough to use a skating board to go to the uni. And as long as you mind the rules in traffic you will do great here.

Supermarket situation:

Big retailers are:

Migros: Large retailer with social responsibily vision, sponsors many activities and doesn't sell alcoholic beverages

Coop: Large retailer who sells alcoholic beverages.

Denner: Swiss discounter with focus on alcoholic beverages.

Aldi: German discounter with limited product display

Lidl: German discounter with limited product display

Spar: Small discounter

Bargains have to be sought as prices are about the same in all the mentioned stores.

PS: Feel free to ask any questions you might have. I am Swiss and live about an hour from Zurich.

Heya,

Sorry, I forgot about the thread a bit. I've been here for a week now, staying at a really nice cheap room. I quickly discovered that the denner is probably the best choice for budget but still it's quite a bit more expensive than back home.

I'm looking for things to do/see in town here, for the weekends I'll probably get a halbfahrt card for the trains because I want to visit Geneva (cern) and some of the other cities as well. I'm also looking for people who may want to skiing (in my case boarding) some time :)
