So, I will admit, I didn't search all too hard, as the "Search forums" tool is a little wonky at times, but... I haven't found any posts regarding the topic of the message of the day character limit. So, I thought I'd start a thread about that.

With the known MoTD bug going on right now I had the opportunity to chat with a few someones about this and I offered some suggestions and requests and I got pointed here; so here we are.

Corporation MoTD character limits are quite unhelpful. Being very verbose, I am constantly hitting that invisible cap even though I am several thousand below the limits, and that's due to all the invisible characters in the code. So, I have a couple of suggestions or whatnot.

A) A raise to the MoTD character limit. For organizations such as mine, we rely heavily on MoTD's of different channels (corp especially) for sharing vital information. It would be awesome to have more space.

B) Show invisible characters in the used characters number. I've got a small 1022 at the top of my motd because that's our actual character cap. If we have any more than that it'll get truncated. Very frustrating, so we have to be very terse with our updates and info-dumps... Which leads to more corp mails, and nobody seems to like those.

C) Lower the maximum characters based on the invisible characters. So most of the invisible characters come from formatting, changing the size of stuff, color, formatting, links, etc. If some invisible characters get added, can we have it to where it'll deduct that number from the maximum?

If any of these three things got implemented that would just make my day and be the best shadow update I've ever seen. Yes, it'd be more strain on the CCP servers, and yes it would take some dev time, but it would still be a nice QoL update. They've implemented QoL updates before.

There are rumors of a new chat system coming later this year:

"New Chat System
In an effort to reduce load on the communications network in New Eden, a new chat system is scheduled to be introduced this year, which will improve scalability and ensure that capsuleers can keep in touch, even when the Tranquility cluster is offline."

The information was posted in error and quickly taken down so don't ask for more details. CCP will tell us when they are ready but development work on the old system is unlikely with a new one planned.

In the meantime, use MOTD for headlines and put the details in corp bulletins.

My motd has a maximum of 1200 characters, at best. Sometimes its as bad as 1000! Yes it's all formatting but people hate walls of boring text just as much as I do.

I've had this want for several years but I've never thought to post about it till now. Let's hope we get some new stuff at Fanfest then!

A short piece of writing on a particular subject, versus a list of links to things such as corporate jobs, documents, the mapping tool. *shrug* I just use the tools CCP gives us.
