Comparison, Simulation and Validation Application?

Hi everyone. After gain some ISK, I have started to research what ship should I buy and what to fit on it. I'm trying to make an Excel for feature comparison to make SWOT analysis but there are too many options and possibilities. Although this is the fun part for me, it takes so much time. Is there any out of game application with complete item database and allow to compare/simulate result for each combination and check invalid parts (Like insufficient capacitor power etc)?

There's Pyfa which allows you to test fit ships and will give numbers on performance. There's other programs like it but this one is always the most/best updated. Personally I prefer the older EFT but it doesn't seem to be updated any more.

Other than that, make sure to have a good look at the traits and bonuses for each ship, that will reveal its purpose and play style, doesn't mean it's a set in stone thing in that regard but on the whole it makes sense to build upon the bonuses the ship gets.

There are thousands of possible fits for every ship in the game and the fit that is right for you will depend on what you want to use the ship for, your skills and your budget.

Since EFT appears to be abandoned, I recommend that you install Pyfa and configure it with an API key so it knows your skills and implants. This will let you see the trade offs between CPU, Power grid, Capacitor life, DPS, Tank, speed and agility. It won't give you much insight into why these trade offs matter.

Arguably the best resource is the Eve University wiki http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Main_Page

Browse the categories until you find a topic of interest i.e. http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Category:Standard_Frigates

Pick a relevant page i.e. http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Tristan That page will link to other relevant pages i.e. http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Tristan/Fittings

If you understand what the various modules do and how they interact your own fits will work a lot better.

You probably don't have an account on the test server yet but, after the next mirror you can login there, build and test your fits for a few hundred ISK. Test against NPCs or login with a friend and duel.

I'd not use the eve Uni fits, most of them just aren't very good and/or make no sense for what you'll use the ship for. Uni Wiki is very good, the fits are crap.

As said, the fitting tools are a good start. Keep in mind, when it comes to ships especially there is no "best" and "better" doesn't usually really mean all that much. When you do your comparisons, and you find a ship that doesn't seem to do what you would expect, instead of assuming it's garbage, ask yourself what role you'd use it for, and what targets you'd hunt with it. Likewise, nothing teaches you more about what makes an apparently "bad" ship good than getting your ass kicked by it. Getting out there and flying will teach you how to evaluate those numbers.

I have been using Osmium since I came back to Eve and I love it. I finialy figured out shield tamking looking at others fits and fiddling with it. https://o.smium.org

Just be aware that there are old fits that no longer work when older than the FROSTLINE expansion, and some older than March2016 expansion. Older than that I don't even bother looking at them.

I feel like this is one of those things you just kinda figure out as you go, as others have said the fitting tools are great helpers to do some of the figuring out.

and of course I recommend talking with other people and asking questions on the forums. people give lots of good recommendations that should help you figure some ships out.
