[Serious QOL] When undocking others can see us in space b4 env load

I and many many others seem to have this issue where space does not load for some time, and yet, everyone else in the universe can see us just floating there.

This leaves us very vulnerable while our client is doing whatever it does to load up the environment. In the meantime, those of us with this issue are all staring at a black screen, hoping and praying that we are not dead already by the time we can see what is around us.

Here is a link to my reddit post on the issue as well, for those of you who want to read it:

CCPLz! <3

edit: What I propose goes something like this (code prose - not quite pseudocode):
- Client sends undock request to server
- Server sends space environment to client
- Client loads and processes environment, but keeps the screen black
- Once loaded - client sends "ok" to server
- On client ok - show ship in space & start any timers, etc....
- On ship in space, show space in client

You cannot get dead within the first 10 or 15 seconds after undocking.

OP have you submitted a report to CCP on this, if not do so immediately with date, game time, system, station and any other information you can give them.

I thought the invulnerability timer on undock was 30 seconds but that was what I was told. I hate station games so I never got a chance to actually time this.

While CCP sorts this out there are a few things you can do.

Clear your cache that is one of the first steps CCP recommends to solve issues with the client.

The moment the screen changes from the station to this black out start pressing the stop ship key combination, either the default or whatever you have assigned. This should stop you while you are still close enough to be able to instantly re-dock.

Time how long this black out is, CCP will need to know this and it will help you determine what level of risk there is relevant to the invulnerability timer and being able to re-dock.

I did have some random trouble with this type of thing when CCP first introduced download on demand my internet connection is to slow so I turned this feature off and the problem went away. Slows down the update process but may be worth trying, you can always turn it back on.

There is the undock invulnerability, but even so, I agree the whole thing feels sloppy, kinda dumb. However, you have proposed no features nor ideas.

My idea to CCP to fix this:
don't do the existing black screen -> spawn in game with timer -> load scene
instead do: switch to outside view a la citadels -> spawn in game with or without timer

The outside view in citadels is already preferable to station interiors, partly for smoother docking/undocking, partly for avoiding the miserable visuals of station interiors. So let's incorporate the far superior technology into the normal operations of things.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

I'm not. I'm dead over 30 seconds after undocking. All of which time my screen remains black and I cannot see or respond to anything happening.

I have timed it - it is all on the reddit thread. You should check it out.
This issue has straight up happened to me from the word GO in EVE since early 2014, that includes new installs, and cache clearings. I have tried literally _everything_

That does not help you at all if you undock in Dodixie or Amarr (or any Minmatar Trade Post, Academy Station or Amarr Industrial station, among others) in a frigate, cruiser or blockade runner/speedy hauler because you have drifted out of docking range by the time your game has loaded as well as deviated so much from the straight undock path that you can't even warp to an insta undock without seconds of align time, not to mention that you cannot re-dock.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Of course not. But what you can do is stop the ship even with that black screen (I have that too - every time). Ship stopping with the CTRL+SPACE (default) doesn't kill the timer.

And make sure, you aren't in a kick-out station.

it sounds like you have horrible latency, Due to that if they base your actions off of your client response then no one would ever be able to touch you and you would fall behind on fleets because you would be taking 10+ seconds to go through the gate when everyone else takes 2-5 seconds.

I recommend
ctrl+alt+shift+m

then go to the network tab
and see if you have a good connection to the server if you do not contact your ISP to see what can be done to increase connection.

I feel for you on your problems but the way the code is now is built to prevent bad connections from having advantages in the game.

You will not waste your time to give us a simple recap of the things you have tried, but you expect us to waste our time going to reddit and read a thread about this, where and when I grew up they called that being lazy.

Since this issue has been a problem for you since 2014 you need to look at your end and not the game.
Internet connection, out of date drivers, incompatible drivers or software running in the back ground and dozens of other things could be the source of your problems.

I kinda feel this thread is unnecessary. Like maybe it ought to be a bug report, not a F&I, at best. At worst, probably ought to be locked as it sounds more like a rant than anything.
