Back after three years. Anything I should know?

I started the game about four years ago, and played for about eight months before real life commitments tore me away.

Now I've got more time, I'm going to take advantage of the free basic account to try at getting started again. Is there anything massive which changed that I should know about before logging back in?

I used to be a PvEer that somehow ended up in deep nullsec with a PvP corp. I left my ship in their space when I left the game. Although I haven't logged in yet, I assume my ship is still sitting deep in nullsec (I think it was about 40 jumps from lowsec) in what is now completely hostile space. I'm intending to try to fly my trophy-ship Sacrilege back to lowsec where I can get back to missions and combat sites until I know what I want to do this time round.

Even though the Legion ships are entirely inappropriate for my PvE focus, I'm thinking of skilling up for the Orthrus cruiser - it was just about to be released when I left, and I was quite excited about them: They look good and fit my irrational love of missiles.

I intend to start back as if new to the game, and simply have a few more skills than most people (I didn't keep my account active for the last three years, so I've only about eight months worth, anyhow.) Is this a good idea, or should I keep going down my previous skill plans until I really know what I want to do?

Thanks.

Hello and welcome back to Eve,

Lot's of things have changed within the past few years, too many to list.

Personally I would keep the old character and just continue playing instead of creating a new character. Course since it's an Alpha account some of the skills previously trained won't be available unless the account is upgraded to Omega (subscription).

Now about being stuck in hostile space. For players stuck in hostile null sec space who have been gone for over 6 months, CCP will do a one time move of the character, 1 ship and all of the items that ship can hold to friendly space. That option must be requested from CCP in a Support Ticket.

Wish I could be more helpful.

Thanks for the insight about the one time move. I've put in my ticket to CCP and hope to save myself about 300m ISK at the 2014 prices.

Welcome back.

https://updates.eveonline.com/ will show you what's changed over the past 3 years. It goes back to the Kronos expansion in June 2014.

The free to play Alpha Clones are restricted to T1 ships of their birth race. You won't be able to fly a Sacrilege unless you upgrade to Omega.
