They should just reuse it. At least in the beginning of the film.

One part why the movie was so epic.

If they try to imitate they will fail. If they try something completely different they will fail.

I trust in Ridley.

Daft Punk pulled off a success with a great soundtrack for Tron Legacy. It's possible to recognise the history and update it.

Personally, I was not a fan of either Tron Legacy or the Daft Punk OST, but the latter did feel very much in concert with the motif of the former. I am also not a fan of Scott's treatment of the Blade Runner oeuvre in recent years, so I'm going to sit out the launch of this resurgent IP.

I do believe, however, that Villeneuve can make a good movie, so when 2049 hits the local discount theatre I will make a point to see it.

What was first viewed can't be first viewed again. I'd rather see a new and fresh take on "Do androids dream of electric sheep?".

Getting sick of all these remakes/reboots and sequels/prequels. Isn't there anyone imaginative left in Hollywood?

Money talks. New products are risky, old proven ones are a safer bet. Why spend millions and take a higher risk with something new and original when you can spend that money for lesser risk with something old and proven?

"If you've seen this film and you liked it, then if you see it again..." is a very strong selling point. It's the reason why films are both relased in home formats and why they are made again as remakes or sequels.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Uhh, that movie looks sick!

Even the music.

I'm excited to see what they've done.

People sometimes forget to take things as they are, instead of what they think they should be.

My cousin wrote his entire thesis on blade runner. I think it's one of the most overrated movies ever, nice visuals for its time but it never blew me away.
