Strange question

I've got a strange situation.

I've recently returned to playing around in EVE however it seems my original character born on date (2006) is preventing me from meeting people or joining corps. Trust issues.

Even basic help questions or requests in local lead to the same problems. "it's a trap don't help him".

What would you do as a noob with an old 77mill sp char that you dont know how to use?

Can you link your old main?
It might be spooking the carebares if it looks even remotely scary.

I'd try derping about for a week or two on a free alpha account and do the new player experience,
it's been overhauled significantly and should help get you somewhat oriented.
Also feel free to poke us in here (nca&a)
We'll take you at face value.

a dedicated help channel is probably going to be more help than asking in local.

I'd probably start off with the career agents. This should give you a quick overview of some things to do and some ships/isk to get going again. press f12 and click the show career agents button, or open the agent finder and select the faction you want to run for, the agent type to career, and the slider to level 1 to see all the options.

once you get moving again picking a direction hopefully becomes easier.

shop through the recruitment section of the forums and look for corps / alliances that are looking for new members and have a public channel. Sit in several of those channels and ask questions that you have about the game.

People looking to recruit will usually be very helpful. Also this will help find a group of people that you might want to play the game with.

Also just by doing a "show info" on people in local and then looking at the info on their corp and then their alliance you can often find public chat channels. Doing it that way you have a better chance of find a group active in your area. However moving in this game isn't that big of a deal.

My main - OP

Not very scary. No bad corps, very high Sec

I pop into eve every couple years so I have the basics down but always get stuck doing the carebear thing and the dreaded "If I only had this, I could do this" syndrome.

Was thinking either break the mold and hop into RvB or FW or just sell this char and start from scratch.

Wut?

Stop associating with stupid corps, or overly paranoid corps (typical of w-space corps - they have reasons).

Nothing good ever come of talking in local.

I often help people complete the SoE mission by advertising in local, or responding to calls for assistance.

In my alliance, CO2, it isn't odd to have someone call-out for assistance in local. ["There is an NPC dread in this mining belt. Could someone please come kill it." or "There is a wormhole in this system. Could someone please probe it." or "Does anybody need help salvaging?" etc]

Join an active group, that has plenty of people to mentor you, and would be thrilled to have you.

Have you tried: Dreddit, Brand Newbros, Brave Newbies Inc., or even EVE University?

There are even zero-qualification groups like: Pandemic Horde, Karma Fleet.

I joined Circle-of-Two about a month ago. I'm somewhat of a nulsec newbie, but I'm not shy about asking in alliance chat or corp chat for help. It is one of the perks of being with a larger group.

I arrived in nulsec with barely an ISK to my name. "Join Fleet", I'm told. "I can't. I don't own any doctrine ships yet." I'm then asked, "What would you like to do?", and I reply "I want to try Logistics eventually." So I'm given a doctrine-fit Guardian (some 400 million ISK or so, I guess), which I can pilot but have never used before, and told to join fleet and ask the logi guys in their channel about anything I need to know. I initially messed-up when I misunderstood the cap-chain command "Feed cap to the two below you", and one of them (alphabetical order logi pilots after me) was a cap-stable Oneiros. Did I get yelled at or anything? Nope. I was simply instructed by the logistics FC to feed cap to two named other Guardian pilots. No muss. No fuss. Learning by doing.

Don't sell your original character, if for nothing else keep it due to the fact that it was created in 2006.

There's plenty of different things to do in Eve. The question is what interests you in Eve and what skills does the character have to actively engage in those interests. Eventually you'll meet like-minded players in-game.

Personally I like doing exploration and missions for Event Agents (Epic Arcs, Cosmos, etc.). Even though I'm still in NPC starter Corp and am basically a solo player, I also fly with other players from time to time and I keep in touch with them with multiple chat channels.

As for others in-game saying it's a trap and don't help him, ignore them. They're just trolls. There's always someone who will answer your questions.

Anyway, welcome back and may you have good luck.

By the way, I went to Eveboard to view your skills and got this message :

Yeah I'm with the others on this, ignore the skittish edjits, keep your main.

I'll reiterate that you should do the new NPE though, it's good.

Finding a decent Corp would help considerably though it's tricky.

Get out of Hi-sec and join a friendly null sec corp.

I was kicking around Hi-sec and would have drifted out of the game if I hadn't taken the jump to null, now I love it!

Null isn't as scary as you think and has far more opportunities.

The Dirty Rejects are recruiting!
Come play with me...... I like being played with!

*eveboard api fixed

Yea Ive been in a couple null corps. really like it but due to work issues (out of state 1-2months at a time) it left me mostly moving **** around after wars and not really having time for learning or flying ops. Also really did have to spend a lot of time proving I wasn't a spy lol. I had one guy actually tell me he was a private investigator IRL and was going to find out who I was. wtf?

Alright maybe I just needed a pep talk.. I'll stick with this char and just get to know folks in some more short term/instant entertainment of FW. Thanks guys!
