can someone please explain what 0.01 isking is and direct me to any guides that may explain it. I would also appreciate knowing what the bots are that do 0.01 isking and where do you get them?

It's competing with other sellers and buyers by raising or lowering prices by 0.01 isk. Most traders will do it at some stage and it's perfectly legit if done manually.

You don't want to know what bots are used to do it, nor do you want to use them. If you suspect someone is using bots to do this report them to CCP, botting is against the EULA and results in CCP hitting people with the ban hammer.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Any time you buy or sell on the market, it automatically uses the "best" order that qualifies. The .01 isk game is where you adjust your price by .01 isk so that you have the best price in your station, so that you'll be the one to get the sale. To get your orders filled, you either have to play the .01 isk game or wait until everyone who is doing it gets cleared out, leaving you as the only one left. And it's annoying. I wish there was a better system for players to run their own brokerages to bypass this stuff.

The joys of a pure commodity market. The only real value you can add to a product is location - list is in a smaller market and save someone the hassle of flying to Jita.

Since commodity markets are cyclical, you can also play the cycle - buy in the bottom half and sell in the top half. This takes longer and your capital is tied up waiting for the market to come to you but you don't need to babysit your orders. Fire and forget.

The EULA specifically prohibits any form of input automation that would give you an advantage over a player that was not using automation - including keyboard macros. If something that confers an advantage is permitted, it quickly becomes mandatory - that kind of power creep is not good for the game. Players caught using bots can be permanently banned from the game.

Modifying sell orders at 0.01 less than the competitor slows down the rate of devaluation and is less risk on the profit margin

@market bot
Breach of EULA, you'll get banned. Never seek them out.
@0.01 isk
When people buy from markets, the order is picked from the cheapest Sell Order listing. Ex. ammo

ammo1 .... 5.02 ISK
ammo2 .... 5.03 ISK
ammo3 .... 5.10 ISK

So when you bring up the buy window dialogue, the lowest price listed (usually) will be shown. Market players vie for this 'top' position always so their items is the one referenced by the Buy dialogue.

The same goes with people selling stuff into the market, the highest Buy Order listing gets the priority (usually). By looking for items/areas where players just dump (immediate sell) their items/junk, you can accumulate lots of items thru the Buy Orders listings. One sample market here is the salvage materials which is used in making Rigs.

Modifying items is fairly easy thru the Market window (with that option that highlights your orders) and the Wallet window. Just right click listing> Modify Item and you'll be given a dialogue to change prices. I usually use the mousewheel to increment the 0.01 for its ease.

To introduce a barrier to 0.01 isking, the system will only let you change prices every 5 minutes. This evens out the playing field somewhat, because others might be 0.01 isking you but you play a 0.02 ISK one to grab the top spot. Another way to circumvent this is to place multiple orders of the same item, so when you're not the top pick anymore you can just adjust your next Order of the same item. This is for really competitive Market PvP.

Probably best not to ask about what kind of bots are doing this in game :)

As above.

The Market interface isn't an Auction House like in other games, where you simply list your stuff and the buyer can feel free to buy from you or from anyone else. The Market interface FORCES only the item at the top of the list (cheapest price) to sell, all the other listings must wait to get to the top of the list. If you right-click on a more expensive item to buy it, you pay the higher price but it goes to the cheapest seller, only the cheapest seller actually sells his stuff.

So that causes two different Market strategies:

1. Sell your stuff for the PROFIT that you want, and wait a week or a month for everyone else who's got a cheaper price than you to sell out, then eventually the demand and pricing for that particular item will increase until your price is at the top of the list / cheapest. You can look at the price History chart in the market interface and you'll see that the price of items goes up and down throughout the year, so YOUR stuff will eventually get sold, even if you try for a higher profit with it.

or

2. Sell your stuff NOW, by setting it with the cheapest price. Of course, other people want to sell their stuff now too, so they'll see your cheapest price and modify their items to be cheaper than you. Then you see their price and you modify your items to be cheaper than theirs. And so on, market wars. The more you reduce your price, the less profit you make, so often you will just reduce your price by just 0.01 ISK, if that's enough to put you at the top of the list. You have 2000 - 3000 people in Jita all day, so that's 2000 - 3000 people who can modify their price to beat your price; it feels like there's bots insta-doing it, changing the price every millisecond, but in reality it's just you vs. a crowd of 3000 all trading the same thing.

And the people who 0.01 actually preserves the value of the item longer. Say a typical 10 hour gaming session where you're modifying your prices every 5 minutes.

10 hours = 10hr x 60mins = 600 minutes
600mins / 5minutes = 120 chances
....for a maximum of 1.20 ISK change or 0.12 ISK per hour, by yourself.

Say there's 10 other people watching and modifying the same item as you:

0.12/hr x 10 = 2 ISK/hr change in price

....but that's only if everyone had the patience to apply the 0.01 isking (answer: they usually don't), only have one listing, and modify entries at the same time.
