I deal with rookies mostly in game. I always feel bad for any that picked Caldari because I know they are going to struggle more than anyone else to finish the epic arc. I can always help rookies put together a catalyst loadout that makes dagan die super easy, but if they are caldari? Especially if they're invested into missiles? All I can really tell them is to get someone else to do it for them. I don't know what the solution is, but I think there needs to be some kind of DPS buff, maybe some tweaks to range.

A cormorant can't do the same thing? Especially that ridiculous railrax that it's out to like, 5 systems away?

I'd have to check the numbers again, but I believe the corm has bonuses to range rather than damage, plus being short low slots puts it about 1/3 less DPS than a similar fit catalyst. At those short ranges the range bonus doesn't do you any good either. Maybe I've just been playing Gallente for too long but I always lean towards getting the most DPS I can get at a given range.

as far as the corax vs algos, I think the corax has roughly half the DPS and a much smaller kill radius. Might as well fly an ibis.

My mentality with the Cormorant is to use the range to my advantage. My "Cat Killer" fit puts out 302dps out to 12km (falloff), which is more than enough to deal with gank fit Catalysts and other glass canons. Sure, it's not exactly versatile, nor is it as popular are the Rail fit Corm, but it's still fun.

Apply that to 80% of ships in the game. :P

But the Corax does have a purpose, you just don't see it.

A Corax can be used to manufacture a Stork, which is a nasty small baby-delive- errm I mean rocket boat.

o Get a group of Coraxes together and you can alpha small ships off the field all the way out to 94km (or more).
o Much bigger tank than Talwar, so in a pure EHP*DPS race the Corax is going to win.
o Range of a Cormorant, bigger tank (at cost of missile flight time)
o Alpha levels are not dependent on launcher type, so you can put together a really cheap Corax and kill stuff way above it's cost.

When the great "Talwar proliferation" happened in FW low sec a few years ago, we switched to Coraxes and alpha'd them off the field at a faster rate, and at longer range than they could do to us.

And they should work awesome with the help of some Kirins.
