Also interesting are the podcasts with Djavin Novienta and with myself (Materall did study history too, btw - and when there is one thing historians hate it is deleting sources)... space librarians, archivars and historians unite!

Bring the wiki back! Enjoy!

Excellently put. EVE needs its history and searchable lore archives back way more direly than it needs a book about how frigates are made. That is not to say I wouldn't like to see a book about how frigates are made, but IMHO the priority is just backwards - first just restore the lore in a searchable format, then work on new lore.

I now know that the story team is prohibitively small, so prioritizing what actually matters the most should then be extremely important. Postponing replacing the wiki and reimplementing its data in a new format in favour of an art/lorebook which with a small team takes a very long time to complete is very poor prioritizing, in my opinion.

Especially if you say first off that "we are looking to bring it all back in the next few months", and then it has been over a year with no communication on what is going on with it. I haven't seen any more than roundabout statements that "stuff is being worked on" (such as the ISD post in the first page) and I've been actively asking about it through in-game channels and EVE Slack. I've pestered ISD's and even Devs to say something, anything official but results so far have been less than satisfactory. Like, why can't you get into details? Give us somekind of ETA, tell us why is it taking so long, why is it a secret? If you just come out and say "we have next to no resources and it's pretty much 100% volunteer work by now", that would make the long wait more than understandable. As it is now, a multimillion dollar company that fails to do something this basic in a reasonable amount of time - a timeline they set themselves, is just mind boggling otherwise.

Side rant: And regarding the "frigates of eve", fiction announcements should logically ALSO be on the FICTION FORUM, not just General Discussion. Also, this forum still has a sticky pointing towards the nonexistant wiki. Really doesn't fill me with confidence that anyone actually gives a ****. ((Btw, thank you for being dismissive and derisive at me when I pointed this out on EVE Slack. You know who you are.))

"That’s no way to treat Eve history."

Some players get disappointed by high-sec ganking, others by bubble decay and killmails. It's a toss up between one feeling like they're being actively antagonized by the devs and another feeling like they're being ignored. The former implies some level of attention. CCP appear to be the latter in this case. Limited resources. Limited interest. Curious why the wiki came down when it did if there was no plan to replace it in a timely manner. I'm still shaking my head on that one.

Yes, we do have good third-party management of content. 21 World News events so far this winter, an intriguing Chronicle, and a major arc playing out with Kyonoke. There's a flicker of life there in Reykjavik, ideas are brewing, but the tremendous corpus of New Eden's story, even the player-driven story, lies in torpor.

I didn't intend to vote for CSM this year. I will reconsider if there are candidates who will pressure the devs to put a modicum of their talent to the redeployment of data they already possess.

You should definitely vote! With your main and all of your alts.

The next year will begin the content redesign, so this year will be our best chance to point devs to what we want lore-wise...

I linked to 2 csm campaigns, but I think there are other candidates concerned with lore too, and the high sec ticket also mentioned that...

This is something that definitely gets at me a bit. Obviously the larger corpus of care on this topic is going to be the Role Play community but even before I was a role player when it came to games with extensive backstories I found the world so much more interesting when I knew some of the background that led to the moment I was in. I didn't really get into EVE untill the last few months on a consistent basis but I loved reading up on the Lore from time to time even if I wasn't playing the game.

As it stands now the folks over at EvE-inspiracy have done a decent job trying to maintain and rebuild the vast library that was EvE's backstory and lore but it is not as yet complete and there is still something to be said of a failiure from central parties to keep a consistent database for the history of their own game. This is dissapointing and something that could easily turn prospective new players who do wish to roleplay or care at all about the backstory to immerse themselves in the game completely away from it. I don't know what voting for the CSM folks will do but I'm going to look into it because if one of those voices can foster support for Backstory and Lore Development and at the very least a centralized location for all the work the players and CCP themselves have done building the backstory, I want that person to be on the CSM.

Well, I voted for all candidates looking to bring lore back in to eve in one way or another found surprisingly many, think about 6 overall.
Now I can just hope they get through and hope they'll bring to the table the things they promised.

So I made the unfortunate mistake of searching my old forum posts and finding this thread: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4038164#post4038164
For those who don't want to open the link, it's me asking slash complaining about the lack of Evelopedia fiction updates ca. 2013, the updates being very sparse in the preseding 2-3 years before that. Reason given was the work being done on EVE: Source, which was released in early 2014. Updates on the evelopedia had largely stopped around halfway between 2010 though, judging by the timeline articles collecting all that happened each year - last entry, YC112 (corresponds to 2010) was only half filled, and altough later entries were generated, they remained empty AFAIK until the very end of the official wiki.

Time sure does fly by doesn't it, and in all this time it feels like the player accessible lore has languished in perpetual, resourceless, hell. Because Evelopedia updates didn't resume immediately, no - according to this it was over a year: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=429656&find=unread For a very short time compared to the years of inactivity on the wiki, about 6-8 months, before Evelopedia got axed, it had started to get some stuff trickling in to it as detailed on that forum post that is still stickied in this forum, pointing to the very dead wiki. Thankfully so though, because I could with it trace the correct search keywords to access the same articles on the few copies that exist such as the "backstage" one.

Again for the hundredth time, yes, I know, other stuff is being worked on, you have limited resources and even though I surely sound unreasonably angry at times, I do not blame the average joe working behind the scenes for any of this.

But for the life of me I cannot understand the absolute silence around this topic? So. Yeah. What gives with this epic slow crawl? Can someone, anyone, please give a definitive answer and if not, why not?

I dunno. Sometimes it feels like I should just give up.

So there has been a development. The new portal has some organization features and seems like a decent jumping-off point. Please leave feedback with your thoughts if you are so inclined.

The Minmatar page states that only four tribes (Krusual, Vherokior, Brutor, and Sebiestor) are included in the republic even though the Starkmanir, Nefantar, and Thukker tribes have rejoined a few years ago.

Links to all the Matari tribes other than Starkmanir and Nefantar lead to 404 pages.

Other than that I LOVE this! If it were an option I'd say that I'd love to help, as it is my feedback will have to suffice.

Huge thanks for making this a reality, to all involved.

Edit2: Indeed several pages seem to bring up a 404, like the article for Matar among them. Well, as the portal was released just now I'm assuming it is not entirely complete and still missing plenty of things or has accidentally gotten some wrong hyperlinks.

It seems to be some kind of import of the wiki. Part of its problem may be that the organizational structure differs from the old wiki and that breaks some links. It might also just have the same problem that importing the wiki archive to other wikis had.

Well, I always had my preferences. I dont know how helpful that would be but I think that first there should be not chronicles, but the races and their origins, then organizations and other lore, then chronicles. Itn that order. I had not seen any fluff text like for examlpe what is Furrier or Fedo. There is article about plants but there are no plants in it. There is no article for animals. I see that there was no work put into giving articles corresponding images, every article have the same. I see that there are some internel links, somewhat like wiki. I would like to see some categorization in the lore panel, at least alphabetical order. And article thumbnail taking up less space, maybe get rid of the additional texts under the title of article.

This was my immediate takeway. I'm not familiar with GitHub so I am unsure how to report problems that are not strictly coding errors.

To give a quick update; yes we are aware of some broken links, and we're fixing them as fast as we can locate them.

I will make sure to pop by in the Out Of Character channel the next couple of days should you want to relay broken things.
