Broad T3 Dessy Question

Hi all,

I flipped through the first few pages of this subforum and couldn't find what I was looking for (and the search feature crashed when I tried it), but I've a very general question.

Is there a "best" T3 Destroyer for PvE purposes, or are they all more or less comparable and just fly what you like? Assume equal skills for all of them and no specific enemy type.

Thank you.

I have used 3 of them and now started using the 4th (Svipul). Each has their strengths and weaknesses and depending on your style and skill you could use any of them successfully. I do up to DED 4/10s, and some of the level 3 missions with them.

Personally I find the Hecate the hardest to PvE, without an afterburner bonus it is hard to active tank with stability imho.

The Confessor is the best all-round PvE unit and really fun to fly. You are stuck with EM/Thermal damage though.

The Jackdaw is easiest to fly, with light missiles or rockets that hit anything and everything in range, and lots of mid slots for tanking and resists. It is slower than the others, so you can get sites stolen by faster ships.

I just started using the Svipul and will probably use it for a while. It absolutely shreds! The tracking is amazing, even with 250 arti.

The Hecate and Jackdaw only have 1 utility highslot, so if you are probing sites forget about fitting a salvager for those T2 wrecks :(
Svipul and Confessor have 2 utility highs.

Use whatever you like and find success with.

Is six to seven times the price of a Jackdaw. I don't feel comfortable taking 1/3 Bil. to lowsec escalations.

For Guristas sites, initially. Swapped the shield booster to the Pithi-A (from a loot drop) definitely makes the tanking solid.
Still a work in progress.

Thank you kindly! I didn't want to skill for one thing when another was clearly superior (looking at you, release Tengu), and life doesn't give me quite as much time to get into the weeds and do my own research.

Thanks again!

Passive Jackdaw is a thing too. Can swap for a Coreli-A 1MN, or fit a 5MN compact MWD if you have the skill (or a PG implant).
Easiest ship to fly for low level pve. Fast reload and selectable damage types, and range to 50km+ with T2 fury.

My favorite for high sec work is the Confessor. Fit something like this:

[Confessor, test]

Coreli B-Type Small Armor Repairer
Heat Sink II
Heat Sink II
Heat Sink II
Centii C-Type Adaptive Nano Plating

5MN Microwarpdrive II
Tracking Computer II
Dark Blood Cap Recharger

Small Focused Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Small Focused Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Small Focused Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Small Focused Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Sisters Core Probe Launcher, Sisters Core Scanner Probe
[Empty High slot]

Small Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II
Small Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II
Small Capacitor Control Circuit II

Warps fast, aligns fast, projects 480 DPS to 14.8+3.6 with IN multi. Swap to IN UV to kite or use Aurora to pick things off that you don't feel like traveling towards. I'm very happy with it.

Hecate can work a similar fit:

[Hecate, frostline]

Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Small Armor Repairer II
Adaptive Nano Plating II

5MN Microwarpdrive II
Tracking Computer II
Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Script
Cap Recharger II

150mm Railgun II, Federation Navy Antimatter Charge S
150mm Railgun II, Federation Navy Antimatter Charge S
150mm Railgun II, Federation Navy Antimatter Charge S
150mm Railgun II, Federation Navy Antimatter Charge S
150mm Railgun II, Federation Navy Antimatter Charge S
Core Probe Launcher II

Small Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II
Small Ancillary Current Router II
Small Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II

Damage us lower -- 375 vs. the 480 above. It's still not bad though. Little guy is quick enough to win contested sites as well. That particular fit is even cap stable.

Oh, and I never did see how it worked for our Serpentis event if you wanted to ask. RL rather interfered for all two weeks of that. This fit was made in expectation when I just figured it would end up being called Frostline like the last one.

Svipul in a similar configuration should work, but damage drops again. This would get 325:

[Svipul, test]

Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Tracking Enhancer II

5MN Microwarpdrive II
Pithi A-Type Small Shield Booster
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Cap Recharger II

280mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
280mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
280mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
280mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
Sisters Core Probe Launcher, Sisters Core Scanner Probe
[Empty High slot]

Small Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II
Small Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II
Small Semiconductor Memory Cell II

Alpha is.... nice? I guess? I dunno. I'm not that keen on the Svipul for PvE.

Jackdaw? Eh. It just doesn't do enough damage. Even with rockets, which have barely adequate range, it only pushes ~300 DPS. Light missiles you're looking at ~225. It will get by, it will do so safely, but if the site ends up contested you lose. It's easily the one I wouldn't take.

You can consider that:
[Svipul, Svipul low sec PVE fit]

Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II

1MN Afterburner II
Pithi B-Type Small Shield Booster
Domination Thermal Dissipation Amplifier
Domination Kinetic Deflection Amplifier

280mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
Small Tractor Beam I
280mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
280mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
Salvager I
280mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S

Small Core Defense Capacitor Safeguard I
Small Processor Overclocking Unit II
Small Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I

About 100 milions gives you 370 DPS and well over 2000 alpha. That fit is made for serpentis, you will have to swap hardeners and, maybe, rig to do escalations in other space. Requires +1 CPU implant. Idea is to use Gila in high sec anomalies and that svipul in low sec escalations.

Not cap stable, unless you swap the Hperspatial rigs for Cap controls and one TC for a cap recharger. And still not stable in defensive mode. Hecate is really an odd duck for Mode switch bonuses. Should have AB/MWD speed bonus in propulsion mode.

Edit. At 55M, this ship is a great risk/perfomance item.

if you're heading into lowsec, i'd suggest flying an actual PvP fit. 10MN Afterburner Svipul with 150mm autos and a deadspace medium shield booster will see off most things that come to try and give you trouble.

Hah. SAR was off. Oops. Stable without repper?

Still a fine ship.

I can fly them all but really prefer the Confessor, especially for PvE.

Even though T2 crystals eventually break, I find they last so long as to be essentially a non-factor in terms of cost effectiveness. More importantly, that means carrying only one or two sets of each type I want to use. Even with a full array of crystals, I still have lots of cargo space for loot. Makes having to run to market both to rearm and to sell loot less frequent.

The Confessor does pretty much anything I care to use it for in high and low sec. Out in null I'm switching to a T3 cruiser.
