Am I missing something here? Is there a way to clone jump from one NPC station to another without paying the 900k isk? I don't understand, why did I pay the first 900k isk? Do I have the option of just letting my corpse rot at the outlying station and jumping to my clone?

"Hey, you want to install a clone here? 900k isk?"
"Nah man, just leave it there."

Like, I feel like I should pay ONCE per NPC station, 900k and then I can jump there afterwards for free. At the very least, an option to discard my corpse for free and jump to an existing clone would be good.

Unless something's changed since I last looked at it, it should be an amount to install, but free to use. Misunderstandings as to what exactly jump clones are is common. Any jump clone is the same thing as your active clone except you can only look through the eyes of your active. When you jump from one to the other, you aren't leaving behind a corpse, you're leaving behind what is basically a new jump clone. So with 1 jump clone, you have 2 options of places for your consciousness to be. This also means you can relocate your clones by leaving one behind where you want it left behind, you don't have to install a new one.

This is opposed to a medical clone which is an emergency backup in case your pod dies.

Every time you jump you are installing a clone in the station you are leaving. You will pay the fee every jump. This fee was implemented with the Citadel expansion to encourage people to use the jump clone facilities in Citadels. Citadel owners set the fee at their facilities - the service module requires fuel so it probably won't be free.

You pay to install a clone in their facility, and you pay to activate that clone when you want to jump.

If your corporation has a structure with a clone bay you can set a jump clone up there, and as long as you're in the same station as that clone you can jump over for free and with no 24h cool down.

I guess it's been a long long time since I've bothered to jump clone. And on top of it not being a frequent use thing (at least because of cooldowns, partially because it's not really very necessary to do frequent jumps), it sounds like it's still cheap enough to ignore the cost completely.

So I guess is this a rant thread or a legitimate question thread?

Youre using their station.

Youre using their services.

You might as well be saying "Why do i have to pay this repair bill every time? DIdnt I pay it the first time? Why wont my first bill pay for all future repair bills at the same location!????"

Also you can do something often referred to as "pod jumping / pod express" where you self-destruct your pod and will wake up in a new (free) now-your-main clone in the station you have designated as your home station (if it has a medical facility). Any implants you have in the guy you are self-destructing will be lost if you do that - so use clean/empty clones for doing that. Useful for instantly going large distances. Limitations as to destination choice, but free method without the long cooldown period of a regular clonejump.

Thanks very much guys, particularly the last guy that told me about medical clone jumping. :)
