Drone Assist in Low Sec/Faction Warfare doesnt work

I often use drone assist in pve and it works well. I have recently tried it inside faction warfare complexes and it doesn't work at all even though I use the same procedure. Having searched around it seems there is some awareness of this disparity. Is there a reason for this and is there a way to get drone assist to work for me in in plex warfare? (Btw the issue is not about activating an offensive module - I always do this)

probably to stop people doing it with the excuse to farm the plex and instead farming other players when they come in?

Depends on the drones. You can only assign combat drones, not ewar drones or logistic drones.
