If you attack an illegal target you get a suspect flag and possibly a security status loss

How does that affect your standing loss when you engage a player in an NPC corporation ?

For instance if you illegally engage a member of The Scope in combat you receive a combat aggression standing loss with The Scope.

But say they shot first or they were a legal target for some reason perhaps they had a kill right you activated or they had been eating yellow snow, do you still get a standing hit with the corporation for aggression against them ?

Podding NPC corpies will destroy your standings with that corp.
Don't agree with it but it is that way.

Well I know that but does the fact they are legal or illegal targets make any difference to standing loss from their corporation ?

That pretty much sums it up. Ships are fair game but Pods should be left alone if you need standing for some reason

When I was in E-Uni I took 2 weeks to focus on a marmite wardec and sat around in Hek with the others in their quick response fleet and we blapped a few suspects between chasing marmites around. When i went back to do level 4's after the war the best I could do was a L2... I learnt this then Cry

Yes pods are an express route to bad standings but even without killing pods, if you are taking a hit every combat aggression and ship kill that soon adds up if you are killing 15 + ships a day. If you are taking a hit from everyone who attacked you first then that is quite bad.

Say you have a duel and both parties are in NPC corps then that would mean they both lose standing

As far as I know, the one who kills the other loses standings.
