What is a Bot-Aspirant?

Hi All!

There are many things that confuse the rebel miner of Highsec about the New Order. Of course, they don't know that they're confused, because they couldn't possibly be wrong about anything, could they?

So, what is a Bot-Aspirant, exactly? The occasional appearance of the term in the sub-forums, and its high incidence on the Miner Bumping website seem alike to bewilder and perturb the Highsec rebel.

"Am I a bot-aspirant?" he asks, bewildered and perturbed.

Well, wonder no longer, miner! I've turned the first of James 315's 'Why They Hate the Code' portraits into a little movie (a touch over 4 minutes), and uploaded it to YouTube. I explain the term in detail, with tasteful illustration, movie capture, and music!

And if you are one of those people who is never_ever_wrong, try bringing up kids; no parent of a 15 year old is ever right!

Other than the "bong" noise when the ship bumped the miner, I don't see any value in the video compared to just reading the snippet on the website.

Thanks for giving it a look anyway, Scialt; I guess you can't please 'em all!

It's my first attempt to present James' work in this format (I've already done quite a bit of it in audio form). I'm certain I can improve on this, so I will persist (I'm like that), if only for my own pleasure and that of my comrades-in-arms.

I can't, however, improve on James' writing; I'm not a writer. The advantage of this and the audio work is that it can be enjoyed without having to take your eyes off D-Scan; the narration is still King.

Thanks again for taking the time to view the piece and to comment.

Heh I love your voice for these. You have a collection of them somewhere without the need to scrawl through miner bumping each time I want to listen to one or show somebody else what the eve community does?

Hi Noragen, thanks for commenting - and I'm pleased you like the voice!

I linked the SoundCloud collection in my reply to Scialt, under 'I've already done quite a bit of it in audio form'.

But here's the link to the SoundCloud page, sorry I didn't make it clearer:

Hi Pix, I'm always grateful for the support I get from you; It's appreciated.

As for more videos, I do have to try again - because James' material likes it, and because I really need to become more comfortable with some of the software I use! It's much harder work than you'd think from the results!

Thanks again.

Hi Clockwork Robot, there's a bedrock of absolute earnestness which underpins what you call our role-playing.

In fact, I'm the world's worst-ever role-player, and I couldn't possibly maintain such a charade for longer than a minute or so if I'd no real reason to do so. I'm woeful in Local, unlike many of my comrades in the New Order, who can remain in-character without the least problem.

In an interview for CZ, James pointed out that most commentators failed to distinguish between his remarks which were to be taken 'tongue-in-cheek' and those which were not. It's simply a case of presenting a serious case in humorous packaging; and it seems to confuse the hell out of the rebels of Highsec!

For the record then, the role-playing is the packaging, the Truth is that EVE Online offers a full-on world-wide core PvP experience. The rebels of Highsec persist in treating it like a single-player theme-park AFK experience. Our worlds are bound to collide!

Thus the term 'bot-aspirant' describes a genuine player-type, as indicated by 'Tetsia's' comment at the beginning of the video, 'I'd use a bot if it were safe'. She wasn't role-playing, and neither am I.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to clear that up!

EDIT: Corrected spelling of 'Tetsia'

Great video! Bot-aspirants need to be saved from themselves. Awareness is the first step to fixing the problem!
