So this is why I can't log into the game today as I am parked in Jita. Bummer. It sounds exciting. Too bad I can't log in to enjoy the spectacle.

Apparently the server for Jita cannot handle it. The time dilation keep increasing then I notice that I cannot tell my ship to do anything (I can still look around, but that's about it). Then waiting error came out. So I tried logging out and in, I can login to character choice but when I choose my character, it just wait and wait, and several waiting error. It has been 40 minutes now and I still cannot login, already tried from different machines as well.

I already went through the petition.

GM RODERICH: There is a known issue with Jita right now. We are working on a fix. Could you please try to login back later on? I am sorry for the frustration.

Ok, I can login again now. I guess whatever big thing that happened just now has already finished.

Yep, the Jita node crashed around 23 Eve and then got stuck for an hour or so. Then they "remaped" (sic.) it, and it's been working fine since then.

Yeah, but if Jita got shut down, there wouldn't be one single place for them to settle and start over. Spread them to the 4 solar winds.

Just curious, what would CCP do if an alliance just parked in Jita and made it a mass killing zone indefinitely? Would they use the "Eve is a sandbox" phrase and do nothing or something else?

It's never going to happen. Especially with the several dozen Citadels and Engineering Complexes now established in Perimeter.

And (big) surprise... most of the gankers in Burn Jita are Alpha characters...

Do you have stats on this?

I decided to take my Rhea out for a spin last night. Had to make some deliveries. Burn Jita can be a nuisance, but not so bad when you survive a 100 man gank fleet.

You can watch it happen in the video below -

We'll probably have to wait for the end of the event, but all you have to do is look at the character names involved to see they were newly-created.

So far there have been 1462 characters appearing as attackers on 91 ganks of Freighters, Bowheads, Jump Freighters and Orcas, between Jita, Perimeter and New Caldari Prime, since the start of Friday.

It's hardly practical to go look at 1462 individual characters, hence the question as I thought maybe you have stats already to support the claim that '(big) surprise... most of the gankers in Burn Jita are Alpha characters'. Otherwise, how are you certain?

I'm not questioning whether they are new, alpha or omega or not. I thought, since you made a claim, you might actually have some facts, as I'm just interested in the stats.

You don't need stats to confirm that the vast majority of characters are Alphas, since most of the names follow a similar naming scheme. As you can't change character names - it's obvious they were newly-created. Look at any killmail for Burn Jita and scroll through the list of pilots involved. This whole 'back it up with stats' is horsesh*t.

I'm not saying it's wrong. I'm just asking how you know that most of the current 1462 characters involved are alpha.

TIL that their name makes them alpha. Seems a bit strange, but ok. If you don't have stats, no need for a hissy fit about "horsesh*t". it was a simple question.

A better way to know would be the pull the data using this link (or kodify it to include whichever systems and ship groups you want to check):

https://zkillboard.com/api/losses/system/30000142,30000144,30000145/group/513,902,941/startTime/201702240000/

Run through each kill and pull the characterID for each attacker and then use the EVE xml API on each one running in reverse order (highest number to lowest) using this link (change character ID):

https://api.eveonline.com/eve/CharacterInfo.xml.aspx?characterID=2112368636

When you hit a point and which the age of the character is too difficult to know one way or the other and then look at how many are still left, versus how many you want to put into the alpha category. Then you'll have an answer and it would take only a few minutes to do.

Look at the names: BJBee 427, BJBee 783, BJBee 8675, BJBee 421, BJBee1492, BJBee 666, BJBee 273, BJBee 006, etc. Then look at employment history: they were all created roughly 7-10 days ago with almost no employment history (read: new). Are there Omegas participating in Burn Jita? Almost certainly. But in terms of cheap, disposable characters with 0.0 security status - these are predominantly going to be Alphas.

Why would you want to grind your security standing when you could simply create a new throwaway character that only needs a minimal amount of training?

You're getting way off track here. I wasn't saying you were wrong. All I asked is if you had the stats to back up your claim, because I'm interested in them.

All this other crap is irrelevant. A simple, 'no I don't have solid evidence, but it's what I believe based on the names of the characters' would have been fine. I'm pulling stats myself right now. I was just wondering if you had any already that would make what I'm doing simpler.

Not everything here is an attack on someone. You made a statement. I was just trying to see if there was any data available underneath it is all.

I don't. If you're able to pull or compile some data you should definitely do so.

Here is the results so far in terms of character age, for ganks of freighter/bowhead, jump freighters and orcas in Jita, Perimeter and New Caldari, since the start of Friday:

Total ganks: 99
Number of characters involved: 1484
Ship types used: 78

Age of Characters:

0-1 week old: 129 (8.69%)
1-2 week old: 179 (12.06%)
2-3 week old: 155 (10.44%)
3-4 week old: 134 (9.03%)
4-5 week old: 33 (2.22%)
5-6 week old: 6 (0.40%)
6-7 week old: 8 (0.54%)
7-8 week old: 0 (0.00%)
>>8 week old: 840 (56.60%)

Less than 10% are less than 1 week old.
Almost a third of characters are less than 3 weeks old.
Almost 60% of all characters involved are more than 2 months old.
