At what price point (isk) do you stop buying PLEX and pay for your sub with cash?

For me its 450 million for a PLEX. If its more than that, I buy a 3 month sub and hope the prices fall during those 3 months.

Never, simply because i can afford 15 bucks every month easily.

So can I.

But for me, part of the challenge is to pay for my gametime with isk. But when the price is too high I have no problem spending cash.

I'm just curious as to when others make that same decision.

That sort of depends on my wallets, in and out of game, and my desire to keep playing and/or training. Actually, right now, I'm loathe to pay in either fashion, so that might indicate how pricy the PLEX is, as well as my current finances. I think it's only 450 if you put up a buy order though.

Payed without PLEX for now anyway. Typically speaking though, ISK is harder to achieve-and keep-than money; so I usually end up paying with money. Only once, I think I payed with PLEX when it was down around 350 million.

Played with PLEX for last 2 years but will not buy PLEX now as its way too expensive

The final valuation (once prices stabilize) of my stockpile in more than 300 billion, so even though I've moved from being a poor student to working paying $$$ still feels like it would be an expense that would hurt my 'pride'.

Pretty much one of the main reasons EvE manages to retain so many veteran players is that those players don't pay any RL isk for their accounts.

If they ever hit 700m+ ISK, I'll reduce the number of accounts I PLEX by one and purchase a year-long sub for it instead.

In essence, that would save me 879m ISK per month when you factor in the subscription discount.

Well, that's the plan, anyway. Until I remember2EVE again I'm paying out of pocket.

I pay in cash no matter the price of plex, because I have a job.

I recently coughed up 450 or more for an alt account. My main account used to be plex only, though the time I spent farming isk in various ways ate up a lot of time, so much time that it meant that any 'game time" I had was put towards that effort of keeping the account going. That means the game time I had was used to keep an account going so that I could keep farming to make isk to get a plex, to farm more, to get a plex...to....never profit.

I recently spent a few hours doing L4 missions and ended up making less then 20mil. The missions I have been getting have been absolute trash and the payouts seem to be reduced, but also take longer. The rate it has been going I would effectively spend 24 hours in game making isk to give to someone in trade for a plex card that cost them $20, which is less then 3 hours of work at a min.wage job. That would leave it at a 8 to 1 ratio of in game hours to RL work hours. Half a bil of isk is just asking way to much for what could be 3 or less hours of RL work time. Me, I'm done with plex unless those prices start to drop significantly.

We have had this discussion before and we will have it again, especially when one could have gotten 3 months of game time for much less then a plex is going for nowadays. The only way for the prices to come down is to kill the market, that means everyone needs to stop buying game time with isk. People want that isk and right now there is to much supply of it and not enough cash being put into selling plex cards. I would like to reactivate another alt as well, at least, but I won't because I'm done with giving so much time away for next to nothing in return. Theres no point in staying in game if all you are doing is working for someone to keep your account going, yet not leave you with enough time and isk to go and have fun. It is a game, its meant to be fun. Hit that wall and that next plex purchase will make you cringe and decide that extra account is not worth the time.

The funny thing is that I suspect that a lot of people that want that isk are the ones out in 0.0 where isk is far easier to scoop up. I also think that those that are buying those plex cards with isk are the ones in empire or even low sec where the isk does not flow so freely. Even if it did, the price of plex cards would increase to balance things out, once again in favor of those selling the cards.

Why did I reactivate my alt with isk? I don't know, maybe a knee jerk reaction. Perhaps I thought isk was going to be made at a rate where the higher plex prices are effectively no different then they were most of a year ago. A slight bump in mineral prices does not compensate it. The apparent reduced isk flow from L4s means that there is going to be more time spent making the same amount of isk as last year, which means gtcs are going to take nearly twice as long to get the isk for. If I had known that, instead of assuming things would balance out, I would have left the account dead in the water like the others.

ha, yeah paying for an online game, at least beyond the initial software price(though thats starting to get blurred as well) is becoming antiquated. It does make me wonder about paying for eve when I have other alternatives to eat up my time, but give me far more enjoyment without the grind to keep an account going. Especially in a game where one still needs to grind for money to get to the fun part!

With my current ISK income somewhere between 1-2 bil might become too much.

Sounds about the same as my old isk income. That made me think about things even more, well, a split second really. Not only was I selling a lot of game time to someone to keep my account going, but I was also helping to keep the prices down on some goods and minerals by supplying such goods on the market. In a way it became playing a game to supporting the game time of others by giving them the isk to buy cheaper goods then they otherwise would be if I was not looking to get a gtc and turned to creating said items.

This thread also reminds me of past threads where people would start to flame away because they think that 20+hours of time spent in game is worth a trade of $20.

This. I am not a hardcore player, so I'd be broke in a few months if I tried to play by buying PLEX.

Keep it up, guys.

Keep posting whine threads about having to pay for subs or you quit.

Then see how you feel when CCP listens to you and goes free to play. I look forward to the hilarity.
