These drones would be have to be big, perhaps 25 or 50 m3? to prevent people from putting them in their explo frigate and ninja huffing gas. Obviously they would have longer cycle times than gas harvesters, and they would mine the same amount. I think this would be nice to allow porpoises and maybe barges/exhumers? to huff gas, and have something bigger than a frigate with an ore hold to harvest gas in.

One thing I'm not entirely sure about is gas clouds which deal damage, maybe give them high shield hp/resists, or slightly less high hp/resists but you have to use some high slots to repair them? Because barges/exhumers/porpoises dont have turret hardpoints and you wouldn't have strip miners if you were huffing gas, you could definitely put some logi in there.

What do you think, are these unbalanced or are they a good way to get bigger ships into the world of gas harvesting? Would this hurt the gas prices?

Because several gas clouds deal damage there's little to no point to allowing drones to huff gas. If you're going to harvest gas with boosts you have enough people on-grid that you don't actually need the drones, especially since gas clouds tend to be fairly small compared to the size of the ore holds of ships that harvest gas.

Also because gas sites tend to be in higher risk areas there's little benefit to using a bigger and slower ship.

not to mention it would break the balance with the current gas harvesting ships

Fair enough but with the advent of excavators, this bridge has already been crossed with minerals.

Yeah ccp did what ccp does and over buffed something that's no reason to perpetuate it. All r we can do is hope it gets nerfed back down before the economy is to wrecked

Double so with ice.

Having to keep track and repair the drones would be a welcome change from sleeping with my face on Dscan/local waiting for my Endurance to finish this nullsec drug cloud before the locals get rowdy.

I'd kill to actually use 5 suckers at once like the skill allows...
