Your opinion however is crap, being that you have drawn to ridiculous conclusions based on no evidence beyond your tiny imagination. Since this is a personal experience thread, I will now picture myself slapping you and making you cry. Ahhh... that was satisfying.

You made a thread about ghost stories and then you say this?
You're hilarious.

The statement isn't put forward with evidence because it's not a point he needs to prove. It's very sound logic that stands alone just fine. Hundreds of billions of human beings have died, and given our history it's very fair to say plenty of them died violently, angrily, or otherwise unwilling to move on. Religion has practiced rituals in every culture since before recorded history. If ghosts were real they would be a bit more common, and they would be getting more common as population rises.

Even if you used famous haunting stories as a benchmark for the possibility of some maximum age/time a spirit lasts, any old city like Rome, Moscow, or London would still have more haunted buildings than unhaunted at this point.

IMHO

The problem isn't that people do or don't believe in ghosts. The problem is when they see something they can't explain they jump to miracles, aliens, ghosts, and monsters. (Or government conspiracies) Once they do that they start filling in the blanks for themselves. Strange sounds or lighting you might try to explain, but once you have it in your head that it was a ghost or a conspiracy to fool you, you don't WANT to explain it and your mind accepts the assumption as reasonable when it's obviously not.

Cry moar VKhaun Vex, this is a thread about experiences that people have had that have change their perspective on the purely scientific view of reality that you are trumpeting.

So a thread about ghosts, is not the same as a thread about experiences that made people reconsider the nature of their reality. You need to read better, and learn to be more specific when attempting to reason scientifically. A collection of such accounts can be just as scientific as anything else, for one simple reason... real or not real, they were still experienced and they are things that transcend cultures around the world. Asking why this happens, and asking what people experienced, is as legitimate of a scientific endeavor as anything else, period.

I am fascinated by the fact that my sister claims to have described a shadow person, long before we had access to the internet and long before ghost hunting existed on TV. It is a real phenomena, whether it is created by the mind or you claim that it is an inter-dimensional astronaut fairy from hobbit land. The experience is real, get it?

I've seen and heard a lot of things I or the people with me can't explain. I think, this is my personal opinion, That if your looking to find paranormal experiences, you won't find them. Somewhat like when you go to the movie, if the marquee says comedy, you expect to laugh. Horror, you expect to get the hell scared out of you. How many people have been taken by the photo or "real ghost caught on film" and the Linda Blair exorcist screaming head popped up?

I have no problem telling my stories, none of them are bullshit or trolling. I feel this way about the stories, you can believe me or not, I won't lose sleep either way.

Some of my stories are short one liners that if a person wasn't paying attention they would never notice. One example is I was house sitting for a friend and I was laying on the couch reading a book when I heard a sneeze in the bathroom down the hall. I said bless you and I heard a woman say: Thanks. A minute later it dawned on me that my friend had left about a hour ago and I was the only one in the house. I checked the house and no one was there. I called my friend and told him about it and he said oh, I see you met Sneezy.

I live in the Southeast part of Tennessee. This area has it's fair share of battlefields, Cherokee Trail of Tears, people being hanged for having the wrong paint job. Because of that it seems like there is more stories of "things". Doors being opened while being locked, shadows out of the corner of your eye and when you look there is nothing there but your mind is telling you a little girl was there.

One time my Mom and Dad let a couple of my friends sleep over so we could watch a horror show that used to come on during the 60's and 70's called: Shock Theater. The show for that night was Creature from the Black Lagoon. We used to laugh at the movies kinda like Mystery Science theater 3k. As we were laying down one of the guys said you really want to be scared? and begin to tell us of tuning a AM radio to static and ask it questions, "something" would answer you. We laughed nervously, Right, Man..you almost had me, your pulling my leg, was our responses. He talked us into trying it out and at first we were joking and asking pre-pub questions and suddenly one of the boys got pale and said: did you hear that? it sounded like it said my name. We asked the radio if it said his name and through the static a distinctive Yes was heard.

I don't remember who yelled first in terror but my Dad came running into the bedroom and wanted to know what was going on. All of us begin talking at once stumbling over each others conversation where it was a jumble of scared jabber. When my Dad finally got us to calm down and tell him what happened, His eyes got real big and he turned pale and threw the radio out the window, called the parents and said pick them up now and I wasn't allowed to have another sleepover. My Dad told me later of people he used to know that played with Ouija boards and EVP and "things" happened to them.

I went to a party one night and everyone was feeling good and the music was bumping when someone went to their car and brought back a Ouija board and I didn't notice it until I saw people sitting in a circle laughing and drinking when I walked up and saw it I went for the door as fast as my feet could take me. As I was walking out I heard a guy ask: Who of us is going to die first. I looked back and saw it was Jeff, a close friend who asked the question. I closed the door and walked home. Five days later I was at Jeff's funeral and the people who were there told me what happened after I left. After Jeff asked the question one of the people goosed (tickled) a girl and she jumped and yelled and everyone laughed. They couldn't find the pointer, or whatever it's called until someone looked under Jeff's seat, it was pointing straight up. Three days later he was thrown from a pickup and it rolled over him.

I don't look into mirrors at night anymore, It's better to not know what's looking back at you. I listen to neighbors who tell me that house is haunted, you don't want to rent it after living in a house for 7 weeks and moving out breaking a 6 month lease and losing a $500 dollar deposit. I do research on a house before moving into it, I can handle crime, I can handle a train crossing 200 yards from my house and the engineer starts blowing the horn, I can't handle after getting the keys from my landlord: Oh, by the way, you can't have any pets there. When I ask why not, it's not in the lease is it? No said the Landlord, they just don't live more then a month..K ? Bye! In three months I lost three pets, all of them with their necks broken at the bottom of the basement stairs.

Now I hear you saying, hey dumbass, close the door! The door had 3 bolt locks (for a inside door, with no exit to the outside) that you had to use the key to open the lock, it didn't have a knob on either side. The first pet it took me almost 4 hours to find. I was whistling and calling his name outside and my neighbor asked if I had checked the basement, that's where they are most the time. I unlocked the door and there he was at the bottom of the stairs, dead. my neighbor and I looked to see if there was anyway the pet could have got in, there wasn't. I got another pet and just over 3 weeks it disappeared, first place I looked was the basement and there it was, with a broken neck. The third pet I kinda, ok no, no I don't feel bad. my sister had an annoying ****-zu aka walking dust mop, she asked if I could watch it for a week or two while on vacation even though she heard the previous pet's demises. Sure I can watch it and this time I put up a video camera with a 12 hour tape in it. I went to bed, woke up the next morning, no dog, opened the door, there it was at the bottom of the stairs, dead. I watched the footage and never heard or saw a thing.

I'm of the logical and "scientific" type and before I jump to conclusions of aliens, ghosts, demons etc I always try to figure out a rational explanation for unexplained events I have witnessed. However, I am a firm believer in ghosts as I have seen, heard, and felt them many times.

The land I live on used to be part of an Indian (Native American) settlement and I can't recount how many times I've been laying in bed at night and can hear faint drums/chanting. No. not like rock and roll drums I'm talking the old drums you hear Indians playing in western movies. When we first moved in I thought it was the neighbors but they lived almost 1000ft away and they were an older (65+) couple so I didn't see why they would be drumming at 2am or how I could hear it like it was in the room with me. They moved out a few months after we moved in but the drumming still happens.

I also have heard the sound of "footsteps" walking up our stairs when I was the only one home. There have been times when I have lost my keys and after searching all over the house I walk into a room and they are laying on the floor in the middle of the room (kinda hard to miss a set of keys laying on a white tile floor). I have seen "shadow people" move out the corner of my eye. The first time that happened scared the **** out of me and still does.

I have heard talking in other rooms of our house when I was home alone. And even had the "pleasant" experience of watching TV one night and getting the feeling someone was watching me so I got up and searched the house to make sure no one was there and looked out the windows to make sure there wasn't someone casing my house to rob it. Everything seemed fine until something behind me said "Help me." Yep, that sent shivers up my spine.

I think the best case I have for ghosts is one night I was driving home. The road near our house is next to a steep hill with a winding road and every couple of months someone loses control of their car or is driving drunk and ends up dying. Just 2 months back a college student was killed driving drunk when his car flipped and caught fire. But anyway the night I was driving home I saw what looked like a girl walking across the road but they were very faint and I thought it might just be fog and my imagination was playing tricks on me and didn't think nothing of it and continued on my way. About half and hour later my brother walks in with tears streaming down his face and since he never cries I immediately think something bad happened. I asked he why he was crying and he said saw a ghost in the road and once he passed it he just started crying and couldn't stop. I asked what it looked like and he said it looked like a girl but he could see through her. I was like HOLY ****!! Turns out that previous winter there was a night with freezing rain and a girl lost control of her car on black ice and was killed in that very spot.

I don't believe in ghosts, but I certainly believe our perception is far more malleable and creative than we generally take it for. And in the power of Hallucinations. No, I'm not talking just about the kinds that may be attributed to substance abuse, but the kinds we may engage in because of a brain fart, or self-sugestion under certain circumstances, even if subcounciously so.

Schizophrenics are very well acquainted with hallucinatory experiences of course, but even normal healthy brains can and do experience them now and then.

I've had a couple of them, both when I was a teenager, but since I've never believed in ghosts or been concerned about them, my hallucinations had to do with something else I personally always had some sort of irrational fear of: large spiders / critters in my living quarters.

On one occasion I very clearly saw a spider as big as my hand crawling down the curtains in my room. Nevermind that this was at a frozen ski resort 3000 meters above sea level, and that as much me and my friends searched around the room afterwards, never saw it again. I don't attribute it to it being a "ghost tarantula" though, just to my brain having some sort of fart.

On another occasion I saw, again completely clearly, a huge centipede crawling across the room and hiding under my bed. Again, as much as I searched afterwards it never showed up, and in my area such critters simply have never been seen.

Not a ghost, just a hallucinatory episode. Sounds far less glamorous, but there you go.

This is not something that the rest of us commonly experience. However, people put in solitary confinement do very often see things as you describe, so yes your brain is farting. I don't mean to be disrespectful, and I thank you for your input. But what you are describing is commonplace under certain conditions and waking states. Most people never get the episodes that you are describing however.

A hallucination cannot be shared either, as it was between my sister and I in the OP. We both reacted simultaneously and heard the same thing. It sounded like syllables being uttered in a such a way that it was not making recognizable words. It was also loud like an angry mama yelling from upstairs. Yet no one was home.

So I either experienced this or I made it up. Since I know I did experience it I know that it 100% was not a hallucination because the experience was shared and it never happened twice. So I ask what was it? The answer is this, allot of people around the world are experiencing stuff such as this and are contributing it to some kind of supernatural phenomena. I don't know if it actually is, but I do know that the phenomena is, in actuality, real.

Maybe one day we find out that Humans discovered time-travel and we are at the butt end of pranks being conducted on some super-futuristic-temporal-internet, because people like to watch us getting undressed in the past. Lol Maybe that is what is causing this and it is not ghosts at all. But, it is being experienced by allot of people of every religion, race and nationality. It is, and that is a fact. Yet, so few care to really address this and ask for a physical reason instead of a mere mental one. It is either that your brain is farting, or it's assumed a ghost, and that is all the explanation that we get. We are forced to choose one. We get caught in between these two ideas and then we are forced to conclude that it's a ghost if we determine that what we experienced was not our imagination.

I try not to make this conclusion, and I try to maintain an open mind. But I assure you, I know the difference between a waking dream and a sound or image that more then one person sees.

So, there's this hallway outside the bedroom of my house. And every morning when I wake up and walk through said hallway to go to the kitchen and make breakfast, I hear this sort of loud "crack" noise coming from the floor. If I walk back over the same section of floor again, nothing happens, and if I do it later in the day, nothing happens. Only when I wake up, and every single day when I wake up.

Oh, and it's not just me who hears it - the "sound" has woken up other people who live in my house on occasion, on the days where I'm the first one up.

Used to creep the **** out of me, but now I just live with it. If it's a ghost, I dunno what its point is. Straight

Well, despite my compulsion to trolling, see annexed thread created by me, I HAVE SEEN WEIRD CRAP during my life.

Yet I do not strictly believe in ghosts.

It's a moot point believing or not . It boils down to FAITH, it's a complex issue, same with aliens. Let's say that as a mental health therapist I BELIEVE the people BELIEVE in seeing Aliens or ghosts or any other belief they hold sacred.

What happens after that is different.

Not really in the serious mood to discuss this, but I stand by my earlier statement.

I BELIEVE you BELIEVE.
