Need a PVE area to learn game

I just finished the tutorial and started the agent missions to try and wrap my head around the basics and ran into issues.

Most of the missions require a weapon however you don't start with one and they are around 6 to 10 mil for the smallest. So I started mining to save up for one while tinkering with the exploration missions to kill the boredom and was insta-gibbed on mission 3. I was out launching probes right in front of the base and trying to find the data site and then after jumping to one that said 29% I was dead within 5 seconds and now those missions are a dead end.

1. Is there anyway to learn the very basics of the game while staying in PVE?

Basic weapons cost much less than 6-10 million.

Many people learned EvE in harsher circumstances. Stick with it, you got this.

Yes, definitely do all 5 Career Agents. Make sure you fully understand and read the Agent briefing carefully before accepting each mission.

The Civilian modules gained from those missions are only good for those missions, nothing else. Also make sure you train up the Core Fitting Skills asap. As soon as you can, upgrade your ship with Tech 1 modules and then work on getting Tech 2. Don't dual tank, pick one type of defensive tank (shield or armor) and fit other modules to help boost it's attributes.

You can basically 'Right Click' on everything in this game for various options, especially for information. Also google search is a great help. There's a lot of info to learn so take your time and don't get into a rush.

So much of this just doesn't make sense.

If you went through the npe they should have given you a ship and some basic guns.

Even without that the free noobship (corvette) comes with a civilian gun. And is enough to at least get started on the career agents where they will just shower you in ships and basic equipment.

Also if you where on the scanning missions. There is no way to warp to a site unless it is scanned to 100%. Even if you could the anoms in the newbie system don't generally have anything threatening enough to even kill a corvette.

The only thing I can think of is that a gala anom spawned and you warped to that accidentally.... lesson to learn, pay attention where you are going.

Your normal progression in Eve will be the NPE, followed by the career agents http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Career_Agents followed by the Sisters of Eve Epic Arc http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Sisters_of_EVE_Epic_Arc_-_The_Blood-Stained_Stars

If you loot the wrecks in the career missions and epic arc you will usually get a decent set of meta modules, weapons and ammo to fit the frigates they give you. You will also get enough ISK to buy and fit a cruiser and enough standing to run level 2 missions.

Later missions in the epic arc will require a cruiser or a friend - there are usually people in local willing to help.

Longer term, the user manual for Eve isn't written down anywhere - it lives between the ears of experienced players. The best way to learn Eve is join a new player friendly corporation and let them teach you.

Also, look up your local trade hub and the main ones (Jita and Amarr). The price you may see could be because you are not in a major market area and thus there are high costs.

You might want to spend a little more time in the market as well, 6 mil for a frigate weapon is nuts

1. Check the regional market to find reasonably priced equipment. In Jita, where prices are a lot harder to manipulate, the only weapons that cost that much are faction gun; T2 large guns aren't even that expensive.
2. You clearly warped to the wrong site by accident, probably a combat anomaly. It's not possible to warp to a site that's only been scanned to 29%, you need 100% to warp. How you died in 5 seconds is a mystery to me unless you're exaggerating, it probably takes that long for the NPC frigates to lock you, much less kill you.
3. The starter and career systems are considered PvE areas in the sense that attempting to abuse a rookie's lack of game knowledge is considered a violation of the ToS. Anywhere else, anyone can shoot at you if they accept the consequences.

There's no reason that the mission should become uncompletable because you lost your ship. All you need is a civilian data analyzer and a core probe launcher, check the market for those.

I'm going to build a big wall that will keep the Gallente out, and they're going to pay for it!

The best way to learn the game is by playing it and not by staying in a "safe" area. Finish the tutorials, then join a newbie friendly club like Pandemic Horde, Karmafleet, Brave Newbies Inc. EvE University et cetera. In this game there are no safe area's which means you need to learn as fast as possible how to protect yourself.

A combat ship capable of any level 1 security missions shouldn't run more than a 1 to 1.5 million isk tops. If you are seeing higher prices it is because people have jacked up the market in the area. You will want to look in to the local trade hubs.

Um....

The tutorial absolutely starts you with a weapon, it's just not very good.

The cheapest small Projectile weapons (I'm assuming you're flying Minmatar ships here) aren't that expensive:

200mm Autocannon I

280mm Howitzer Artillery I

Fit them on something like a Rifter with a decent active tank, maybe some damage, mods, and a web for range control and making things easier to hit, and you should be pretty much good to go.

Also you can't jump to a site that is 29% scanned down, you need to have the site at 100% to warp to it. I'm not sure what you warped to but it wasn't your mission site.

If you are in a capsule and you dock at a station where you have no ships you automatically get given a free rookie ship which has a civilian miner and a civilian turret weapon type dependent on your character faction. There is a very fast way to double your firepower: remove the modules from your rookie ship, undock - eject - dock again in your capsule you then have the mods on your new free ship plus the ones you took off the other one. So now your rookie ship can have 2 turrets or 2 miners as an option

This is what happened at the end of the tutorial for me, minus the civilian weapon. I did find my weapon eventually but it was at my home base 2 jumps away and not where the tutorial landed me.

Also this is how I jumped to a location at 29% scan, I found a place with the same name in this map view and clicked jump.

Weapons first.

Those are Six Thousand ISK (roughly) not millions. Not sure if this is because you're from a place that uses different decimal conventions or what. If it is you might consider filing a ticket with CCP. It's unlikely anything will be done immediately but every little bit helps.

Scan window second.

Regarding the scan window. What you appear to have warped to there is an asteroid belt. Those red spheres indicate a site that you have only located with a single probe. This part of the UI is going to be updated soon for better clarity so hopefully that will help.

For future reference you can't warp to something until it's been scanned down to 100%.

The white/grey objects on the map are static system features, like planets and asteroid belts, not scan sites.

Also note that the market shows entries in your local region, so if you bought something and it's not showing up in your current station then check the jumps away the item is, or check your Personal Assets window (safe icon on the neocom) and see if it's not in another station. When buying you want to make sure you sort by distance or filter out results in other stations or systems before buying so you don't accidentally buy something far away or in Low Sec.

This might seem lame but I kinda got my hook from reading Evelopedia and doing any faction named Hideaways and even Refuges (I remember Refuges nearly taking all my Thrasher's shield tank and were much harder to solo) Back then, Evelopedia was completely and totally wrong on what actually escalated to what so I had almost as much fun trying to figure out what was actually right and being told here on the forums that my RNG was 'just bad' but it got me in touch with some cool people willing to share how the game worked with me.

These sites appear at random in your probe scanner window and you can warp to them without any probing first. That's what I did and you can get the occasional faction rat (like a boss) that could spawn or an escalation to a 3, 4 or 5/10 depending on the rat type and site.

I couldn't solo those but I got to know a few people in those early days that gladly bought my bookmarks. Keeping myself busy reading Evelopedia, escalations and faction rats kept me hungry for more.

To each their own but I couldn't stand missions. I've only done what was necessary for an epic arc once and that's more than enough for me. I liked being able to cruise around and actually explore.

Oh not a slam against your contributions or your work at all! Hopefully no misunderstandings your work is very valuable and I've used your COSMOS guide. I hate that we have to look in the dumpster behind Steve's warehouse for evelopedia now. Ugh

I was talking about this chart that was on the Cosmic Anomaly page.

Before, it erroneously pointed that Blood Hideaways escalated to 1/10's. I ran so many that I started to track stuff and keep statistics. Posted my findings to Missions & Complexes and got some mixed responses on it. Jeremiah Saken made quite an impression on me in those days because he was not only after the same knowledge that I was but was also amending that chart I screenshotted to show 'c' next to sites that actually escalated and fixed what it actually escalated to.

I could tell more if you're interested but this was what got me super hooked to Eve - I started to bring my journal to work incase I had one of those 'ah ha' moments or an idea that I'd want to try.

Yeah, I didn't mess around with that page very much, specifically the Escalations part listed on that page. I just made sure the order of difficulty on Anomalies was listed correctly. Most of the work I did on exploration sites was on each sites individual guide page.

From my experience, mainly doing Angel Hideaway sites, I never once had them escalate to a DED site. However I did get quite a few Commander NPC's spawning.

On average it was usually 1 out of every 10 sites which is why I posted in that thread you linked that Commander NPC's are also considered an escalation as well, especially since they have a random chance to drop Faction / Deadspace loot..
