Hi,

my client crashed multiple times with this message displayed.

"The program exefile.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to be closed."

I was able to reproduce this and log it (ticket open number: #379401)

My system:
IMac late 2013
3,4 GHz i5
32GB 1600 MHz DDR3
GTX 775M 2048 MB

Would be amazing to see it fixed soon. ,)

Fly safe everybody o/

First answer...

Hi there, I am GM Roderich.

Thank you for contacting EVE Customer Support. Could you please open the launcher and click on the right side on the options button and select "Shared cache". Then could you please click on "verify". Please let me know if this resolves the problem.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen
GM Roderich

Have you tried wiping all your EVE files and starting over with a clean download? After a never-ending series of problems I've done just that and it seems to have (fingers crossed) improved performance and stability.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Hi Arthur, thanks for your help.
Until now I hope to avoid this step, but I think you are right and this will be the best way.
I am waiting for the next answer from the GM and will then reinstall if necessary.

Reinstalling is rather easy: First back up your settings (this can be done by digging into your system library and application folder eve folder blah blah blah. One of my post here in the Mac forums gives a step by step guide.)
Second, once you have your settings backed up someplace safe back out to the Library > Application support and just trash the EVE folder. Empty trash. Start up EVE Launcher and wait for reinstall.

I did this a few months back. I never really ever have major EVE related problems, but sometimes I like to just clean up my computer. If you need help, I am able to do voice comms or out of game chat and walk you through it all.

Hi everyone,
I did what Arthur Aihaken and Amarisen Gream said and reinstall Eve complete - same issue after some hours. :(
Nothing new from a GM.

Sorry to hear it didn't work. I'm in the same boat, unfortunately - with EVE unexpectedly crashing while jumping stargates or docking.

Can you please file a ticket with a Loglite file, a launcher log file and an image of your preference window attached? Feel free to mention me and please file the ticket under English.

so odd how different computers with what would seem like such a small amount of changes between hardware and software can do to everything else in the pot.

I wish you luck, and hope CCP is able to assist you all in your issues.

I've been taking a look at this issue and after reviewing some Loglite files from various users they all seem to have the same thing in common, the client is running out of memory. Please note that EVE is a 32 bit applications. It can only use 3.6 GB of your Ram. Setting high resolution will likely cause the client to crash. Try running the game at lower resolutions.

Hi all,
According to GM Mechanic I set all settings now to medium.
But I am still surprised that this problem only exists since the last major patch and it happened regardless of whether I had one or more clients active. So I more likely think it is an "code-issue" than a Mac problem.
Perhaps something is draining too much memory, but I am no programmer or something like this.

Out of interest, could it be related to selecting the 'High DPI scaling’ option in the EVE Launcher?

Oh and we used a little officer mods. KIDDING! We used a lot of officers mods, A LOT! Because we don’t :censored: around in low-sec.

I tried enabling Loglite but it doesn't capture anything (this is with a fresh install). The old install indicated there were various memory issues (which I posted in the 119.2 feedback area) all I get is the .exe error everyone else is reporting.

Please note that this wasn't an issue prior to Ascendancy, and that this instability has only been introduced over the last few updates. I used to be able to run 5 stable clients in high resolution and now I can't even run one.

Good question. I wonder if there's an issue in the Wine configuration file, as previous versions were barely allocating any GFX memory. I've also noticed that EVE no longer recognizes my specific GFX card and that I get a generic AMD one now.

So I thought I’d try this out, as it makes sense enabling HiDPI scaling in WINE would effect memory. I would normally have the client crash on me, as outlined in this thread, every session, normally several times during a period of play. Since turning HiDPI options off in WINE, I’ve not experienced a client crash. I need to give it more time to see if it’s really made a difference, but so far looking good.

I just checked my preferences and HiDPI scaling in WINE has been off by default - so that's definitely not it (at least for me). I'm going to try enabling these options and see if it has any impact on performance and stability.

I also cleared all my cache settings and ran a verify on the shared cache settings. Apparently to get LogLite to run it needs to be enabled under the Preferences menu (rather than under Settings, which it used to work from).

This is one error that keeps cropping up that I never used to get:
error wine "err:d3d:wined3d_guess_card Unrecognized renderer \"AMD Radeon R9 M295X OpenGL Engine\", falling back to default."
