Chimera Model

Hi

After last nights' o7 they showed a new model for the Chimera.... I have never been one to complain much about new models, but I really don't like the new model for the Chimera. There is nothing wrong with the current one (except maybe the spotty SKIN textures).

If you REALLY want to change a Caldari model, change the drake. Big smile (Still don't like the fact that the Nightwawk now looks like the ugly Drake.)

Just thought I would complain now while sitting in my Chimera. Smile

I do however like the new model for the Cormarant, that looks sweet.

I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it.

Not everyone is going to like every new model. Some people preferred the old Moa model while I personally love the new one and didn't like the old one.

Personally I'm going to hold off on judgement on the new Chimera. I'm not particularly attached to the old one, and the new one doesn't look like it's going to change that much.

Drake is fine though IMO. It's one of the more iconic hulls and at best needs a few tweaks to fit the newer Caldari style, not a huge rework.

Hideous and completely unnecessary. The current Chimera is one of the best models in the game. Great proportions, a unique yet functional and 'designed' look about it like all caldari ships have. And that characteristic underbite. The only issue with it is the issue with all caldari ships in that they have crappy skins.

This new one is entirely too narrow, looks more like a gunboat than a carrier, and is trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist, unless there is a rendering issue with the current model that CCP has kept quiet.

You mean besides the fact that a lot of these older models don't support the new texture tech (which is why their skins suck) and the Charon and all the capitals look like someone painted on a potato when you zoom in on them (something the new model fixes by using the Citadel texture tech).

Nope this blows away current chimera.

But it does seem more like a rokh redesign than chimera, but it's still a billion times better than the other caldari ships.
Blackbird and this are the only two really solid caldari ships now.

I really like the current chimera model. That one looks pretty sexy though. Agreed it looks like a rokh though.

Oh? Where did you see that?

The only new model I saw that the new Cormorant, which looks pretty cool. Though a new toothbr- errm Osprey model would make me really happy.

I found the part where he explained how he developed the new look interesting. Now I hope the new Osprey model will look like a bird.

Indeed the cormorant is gorgeous.

Nah, it removes all the current chimera's character and makes it look like just another generic caldari submarine.

new chimera model just looks weak. as if the caldari suffered huge budget cuts so they needed to strip it down to its core.

and they hell are you talking about with the drake it looks like something built to take a hit and that is what it does

That cormorant pic looks good. Ugly paint job but good hull. I wish they would redo more ships.
Gallente need to get an algos and talos reskin. Those ships were ugly when they were brand new and never should have been released looking that bad. Same for that amarr drone destroyer.
Hopefully they're up next if they're doing destroyers right now.
Not sure why they jump around, you'd think they would go let's do all 4 of x-role frigate, then all 4 x-role of blank,, and roll them out all at once rather than jump around.

It's from like a year or two ago I think, i just remember all the ship arts cause even though i haven't been playing for years I always get the newsletters and look at any ship art they have.
I think there's a kestrel pic also but I think that ones fake.

On the comments of the Drake, I spent the 1st year staring at that model. It looks like an armour plate that fell off a bigger ship. Lol

I am not hating on it, some good examples mentioned in the tread so far, but I still am not a fan of the new design for this carrier.

Mostly reason I have been playing was getting this hull because I love the look of it. Big smile

no doubt the chimera is one of the best looking ships in eve and this no look barely even retains the spirit of the chimera

I recommend viewing the full bit from the end of the o7 show. The screen shot that's mostly being passed around is probably the worst angle for the model since the hull blends into the grey background and doesn't show off the shape very well.

Thing is that is still the same, more or less, model that was put out a year or so ago. It's not that we haven't seen it well enough.

no matter the angle it looks thin and weak compared to the current one. to be honest it's probably one of the better angles where the shield generators don't look like stubby arms

I have two Ospreys (from back when they were mining ships). Those things are hideous. I refuse to fly them until they look less ugly.

Actual ospreys are nice looking animals.

To each his or her own. Personally I care more about the shape of the upper deck and less about the shield generators (which I actually like) and that's hard to make out clearly from this screenshot.
