Keep new character with name I like, or old character with a ton of SP

Hi guys,

I think I'm just here looking for some kind of affirmation.

I made a new account with a character that I really like the name with, and I also like the 'fresh start' feeling, where I don't feel cluttered by assets in a lot of different locations, etc. This character, though, only has about 450k in SP so far (very new).

I was looking back and apparently was able to retrieve passwords for characters I've had on and off, for short amounts of time mostly, since as far back as 2004 (though 2010 and on are more serious).

Most of the characters weren't great (600k SP or less), but I had one with 6+ mil in trained SP (drone/industrial).

So now I'm wondering, do I follow my heart and transfer everything to the new character, and start fresh with exploring/scanning... or would it be that much smarter to go back to my old account?

Well, you could continue the fresh start with your new character and just keep your old character with 6+mill SP's available to help out when needed.

As for the other lessor characters, if they aren't really good for anything you could transfer their holdings to your new fresh start character. If they have enough SP's, maybe extract their SP's to boost the SP's in your new character.

Thanks for your reply DMC,

I was starting to think the same thing. Only, all my characters (almost) are on separate accounts. I guess it wouldn't be too bad, though, to just create a new character with the name I like under the same account as the character with 6mil SP.

Question on transferring assets. Money transfer is simple enough, but when I make contracts to transfer assets, I can only make 1 contract per location, so I have to wait until that contract is up, then go back to the other character and create another contract for the next station. Is there a way around this?

A good name is priceless, it's also the most important part of character creation because generally you cant change it.

I imagine 6mil SP chars don't sell too well?

Looks like the rules say they have to be active also before they can be sold. I wouldn't mind selling the character to get some isk, but between activating and the transfer fee, I don't imagine anyone would buy it..

Actually it would be better to have the new and old characters on separate accounts, that will allow you the ability to have them both online and in game at the same time when needed.

As for the other characters on separate accounts, they each should be able to create one private contract to your new character. Private contracts don't have any regional restrictions so they can be accepted anywhere in the EVE universe. Those characters will need to have ISK in their wallets to pay for the contract and after the contract is accepted by your new character, they can then transfer their ISK.

Another option is to do in-station trade, basically characters on separate accounts meet in a station and do a private trade between them. That option doesn't cost any ISK, just make sure to right click your character and select 'trade' to transfer the items. Both characters will have to accept the 'trade' to finalize it.

You're going to have more fun playing the character you like best. Skill points are the easiest thing in the world to acquire

Try if you can't sell the 2004 one on the bazaar, a 2004 character may yield a bit more than a newer one with the same amount of SP. Probably not enough to buy you 5.5M SP worth of Injectors, but a couple billion seems realistic.

Thanks,

I don't think my 2004 char will yield anything, though, considering I don't believe it even made it out of trial mode. My 6mil SP char was the only char I really played for a month or more. It'd be nice if someone would be willing to cover activation/transfer fee + whatever scraps of isk I can get for it, but I'm doubtful

That may be even better. Some people will pay good money for an unknown 2004 char with no corp history to speak of if the name isn't too terrible. But yes, if it's on an alpha account, you'd have to reactivate the account and pay the transfer fee, which would be about 3B overall. I'd still say it would be worth to ask for a price check at least. If you can find a buyer for 4-5 Bil, I'd say that's definitely worth it.

honestly, 6mil is hardly anything when it comes to SP. thats what... 3 months of omega training in an optimal remap with +5's? even without that we are talking 4 or 5 months at most. you will blow past those 6mil sp super fast.

I say go with the new character who's name you prefer. I recently changed mains because of a name I hated and dropped from 50mil sp to about 20mil when all was said and done, so loosing 5mil ish is small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.
