SWTOR: The Missing Unsubscribe button

I was talking with someone earlier about SWTOR and they mentioned mass unsubscribes over some exploit, which I don't know how true that is, but there seems to be a mess in the works over there, then I came across this article:

http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/19/swtor-unsubscribe-goes-missing-for-some/

It seems the "unsubscribe" button has disappeared for a number of people just before a large number of subscriptions are about to renew...lol...

Oh... mysteriously the button was removed from the page?

Oh, it was there before on all browsers but now suddenly it mysteriously broke?

Oh, everyone is unsubbing from that pos? Problem?

It's a trap.

LucasArts is a joke. This wasn't some accident, it was done intentionally to net as many unsubbing players for another month. Can't trust LucasArts for anything really, everyone should know that LA makes horrid broken games and milks money at any and every given opportunity.

I bounced over to their forums and looked around, looks like the initial threads on how to work around the missing unsubscribe button were being locked for "not pertaining to SWTOR" lol. Looks like someone told the mods to stop doing that though.

LOL it gave people instant 60 valor which takes a lot of ginding to get. I unsubbed from the POS 3 weeks ago. The exploit could be tin foil hat conspiracy though don't know, or just typical incompetence from the dev teams. I mean how you could screw up a game like that with that much money over 5 years is just pure incompetence.

Well...

Google CCP boot.ini....

Pretty major **** up :P

Bugs are to be expected in MMOs, exploits too, but removing unsubscribe buttons? (if it was indeed intentional). Usually most MMOs have some major exploits when initially released. EQ2 had one where you could endlessly duplicate items and resell them, there was a story on the thing long time ago, rather amusing. I'm sure there are plenty of other things like that floating around with just about all the games out there.

I don't think this is fixed. Pretty sure it just happen to me.

My friend made me get this game and when I saw this thread I decided to unsubscribe while I was thinking about it. There was no cancel button. I REALLY wanted to be a smart ass and find something people had overlooked like a button on the side or a link under 'help' that worked... Everything just linked back to the same page.

I deleted my saved CC info but I couldn't edit my current billing info to get rid of my card, went to help and searched for 'cancel sub' and it linked back to the same page again... at some point the unsubscribe button showed up. No idea what I did to make it appear, but it was NOT there originally. There were only a few buttons so it was pretty obvious when a new one showed up. Once it did I was able to unsubscribe with it.

SWTOR forums are a lot more interesting at the moment then EVE forums aren't they Lol. The hacking/exploiting going on might actually be worse than it seems, since the forum mods delete any threads talking or raising awareness about them almost immediately. I've been lurking there recently, because of all the drama there and have noticed new threads about exploits and hacking being made pretty regularly, that disappear within a minute or two. And I do mean disappear as in, if I read it and refresh the page all traces it ever existed are just all gone.

It seems that either the designers don't understand human behavior or their QA team is horrible, since new exploits are continually popping up and the players don't play the game like the devs thought, so the mechanics produce a lot of angry and frustrated players. The game servers also trust the client to provide some of the combat relevant info, so unsurpisingly the system has been hacked and is being exploited to give unfair advantages. People complain mostly about the obvious speed hackers, but who knows what kind of cheats the game design allows a clever player to do.

It's a new game; issues, hacks, lag, problems, server pop problems are gonna happen. Those are the growing pains every starting MMO has to go through and in and of itself it's not at all a killing blow. Being a crap game and having the DEVS respond poorly/slowly IS a killing blow.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

Pretty much.

As a side note, if you start posting about exploits on any game forum even this one, expect your posts to be removed, that's just par for the course, and honestly necessary.

I just find it amusing how the unsubscribe button disappeared for a lot of people whose subscriptions were up for renewal with in a day or so lol.

It's Blizzard hacking their site.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...
