Hi mates.
I first come to the game a lot of time ago, not always played. I like to see the russian localization in the game, it's much better today then in the begining, but it can be better. Also I am a open source programmer. And so I want to suggest to make localization files open source and involve players community to help you. It will be cheap and efficient. You will be need to put localization files to a version control service: Github, for instance, or a corporate server. And hire only one a language specialist who will check gamers translations and manage discussion (and may be voting) on the forum between the players about translation difficult terms. The main profit will be that if any one will see a mistake or a mistype in localization this can be quickly fixed. Much quicker then write bug report and wait when it will be fixed. Also players community will be involved and share ideas about translation difficult terms which don't have analoges in this langauge.

Localization has been causing a lot of drama since its appearance. There's an interview on the subject you can read over here. To get an idea about the opinion of the forum public, check out the relevant subforum on eve-ru.com.

Problem 1: Trolls. It would take about 30 seconds for someone to find this and insert into the description on every mining module in the game for a given language something like "Stop botting you [insert culture here] scrub"

Problem 2: CCP still needs to check absolutely everything the players do before it goes into the game because of liability issues and quality control. It would not reflect well on CCP to have "Stop botting you scrub" show up in the game client files.

Problem 3: Disagreements and edit wars between players over the correct way to say something. Some things will be widely agreed on, others will not be, so the end result is a mess waiting to happen.

Overall this doesn't sound like any more or less work for CCP than the current system of correcting localization errors through support tickets. It doesn't even get things the community may want changed changed because CCP would have to maintain a veto over any player submissions.

Part of me kinda want to see a few things renamed cancer just for the lulz but yeah, it's a nightmare to deal with if they ever do this.

The english version is the template, whenever a script is changed or new scripts added, they appear automatically to be translated or reviewed if the previous translation is still correct. Each language has 1 admin to apply the accepted translations (we can give this role to ISD members), a few translators with moderator roles to accept or deny translations (abusing this will result in losing the mod role), and normal translators as there is interest for it. There are a few guidelines about what not to translate, but that's about it.

If you want an intelligent argument, please do, I'm up for it!

But if you want a trolling contest, I will win it by simply not participating.

when you look at group projects like this you tend to find there are more people dedicated to getting it right then screwing it up. that's why wiki has managed to work so well.


that said i do see this being a nightmare and i think we would be better off leaving it to professionals

Small Steam games, like CS:GO, Team Fortress 2 and Dota 2, with 25 available languages? And these games are constantly being updated with new stuff, so the translation restarts after a couple months.

Yep, may be. But look at open source programmers communuity. This problems are solved. Do you use smartphone with Android? Android is based on Linux which was wroted in the same way as I described before. Do you use wikipedia? The same ****.
