Why bother Falcon? Just shut down forums and make 3rd parties do them like you did with EvE wiki.
As devs you shot your own knee caps. People don't even bother to post feedback in blue threads, similiar reddit ones have twice that much comments.

Whilst I would often strongly disagree with the views of some posters, I always respected their right to hold and post their opinions.

I have been roundly insulted by some of those who disagreed with my views, but have enjoyed some of the classier insults thrown at me.

The forums nowadays have become Hello Kitty Online.

Shame really.

I see plenty of low level and blatant insulting here.

I also see fake indignation and trolling.

I also see tons of completely useless waste of board space by mentally challenged shiptoasters.

If you are gonna insult someone or waste our time in reading what you produce, atleast make it clever and classy.

Maybe, but not really a problem if it does.

People tend to have long memories for things they find disgusting; and they'll occasionally come up in discussions. Just part of everyone being different (and maybe part of the drama the OP was referring to in terms of personality in the forum).

One feature of these forums that does get old is the constant rehashing of topics that are already done and dusted.

CCP decided to ban the people running bonus rooms, that behaviour is not acceptable in eve according to CCP themselves. Whether it's ok to enjoy seeing someone you see as guilty suffer for their actions is a bit of a thorny issue that isn't going to be settled here.

A dislike button would probably be quite helpful, so people don't feel the need to write lengthy replies to posts which contribute nothing to the discussion.

Ps. If another website is taking your traffic, it isn't stealing to copy what they do, it's 'inspiration'.

And we come full circle...because you see there is a place called Reddit that...... ok nevermind :)

But seriously, a truly objective look at the situation would demonstrate to everyone (except the most rabid EVE Forum partisan) why Reddit is way more popular.

Do you get a bunch of "why did I get PVP'd in this PVP-centric game? whining on reddit? Nope.

Do you have stickied discussions about dead horse topics like Cloaky Camping or Isboxer? Nope.

Is every other post on R/EVe about how high sec is not really high sec or about how null is soooo much safer than null? Nope.

Can you easily find news about EVE on these forums even though these are the EVE FORUMS? Nope.'

You know a forum's situation is bad when it can be said that Reddit is a measurably saner place. I doubt a forum revamp is going to change this dynamic much, because it's not the forum, it's that all official forums attract people with agendas (not just for games, IRL too, they are called Lobbyists) and people with agendas repeat themselves over and over again until their need/want is met.

Reddit is popular for several reasons: Killmails, memes and being able to b*tch about things that would be locked here. I wouldn't necessarily agree that it's saner. Just a different flavor of dysfunctional...
