npc minig ops not worth it

I was in a harbinger the first time I attacked an NPC hauler. The hauler was a Mammoth in .1 space. I blew it up and got a 8 mil venture skin, and almost lost my harbinger because the response fleet of frigates was ripping me apart even at 100k ehp with medium repper.

I tried again in a navy harbinger in .1 space, and the response fleet was :

5x Rupture
2x Scythe
1x Bellicose
2x Stabber
3x Slasher

Luckily, I warped off before it tackled me. This same fleet attacked an Archon in youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqyeZiIHINY

I don't understand why the same system with the same T1 haulers has a totally different response fleet. 10 cruisers against a navy harbinger? wtf?

The reason I even warped off in time is because I suddenly lost lock on the hauler and it warped off even though I had a 3 point scram on the T1 hauler.

This happened twice in a row. Then I finally blew another one up, and when I warped back the wreck was gone even though no player ships were ever on D scan.

Finally I fit an Armageddon with 700dps tank. I attack an Impel. It goes about 5% damage, and then I lose lock and it's gone even with a 3 point scram and web on it. Then the fleet warps in and raped me with several Augors, Arbis, Omens, etc. similar to the minmatar fleet.

Basically, it seems like the risk vs reward on these is totally unbalanced. Personally I won't be doing these, though they are somewhat fun as they are challenging.

Anyone think mining ops are worth it or not?

I haven't even been able to find one yet (not sure how hard I should be looking), but from everything I've read thus far it doesn't seem like the risk is worth the reward. At least in high-sec, anyway.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

If i were In null i would go with a combo off any dictor ie Sabre or any of the other faction ones + a high DPS sniping BS.
Bubble the hauler T1 or T2 and then blap it to dust and warp off, there's no need to interact with the response fleet.
Then use d-scan to see that they (response fleet ) warped off and return and loot the wreck.
And killing the mining ships would probably only have the result that the mining fleet respawns in another system.
I would keep them alive to see if there's another hauler coming in.

PS, it could very well be that the dictor is considered as a no-target and can do the looting, since it never attacked the
hauler with guns. Can't confirm this since i'm not living in null space.

This may work if you have protected null sec.

I blew up a hauler quick, and then warped off before fleet arrived. My alt warped in to get the loot, and the fleet had already left and the wreck was gone. I have only did this once, so I don't know if it was a bug or if they do this to prevent ganking and coming back.

I could have looted the wreck, and then warped off although the added time to open the container may have got me scrambled.

Another issue with mining ops is how long the hauler takes to show. I waited about 45 minutes, while I could have been ratting or doing something that brings in consistent ISK.

To wait 45 minutes and be faced with a fleet that will pulverize a battleship only to be rewarded with a venture skin seems totally insane.

I like the idea of NPC mining ops (a tough NPC fight), and I would ask corp mates to do them with me if the reward were far better.

I did this many times wreck was always there at warp back maybe they change it i did not run em in weeks.

just keep hauler and combat ships in overview uncheck miners don't wait for hauler ....scan belts while you pass thru system and warp to one that have hauler already in it.

i have two faction miner drones that cost ~250mil in some backway hub so kinda depends what you get and sell.

not that great overall imo

Thanks for the tips. So do you always attempt to destroy hauler, then warp off before fleet arrives? Is this the only viable strategy?

I think T2 haulers may be too hard for my ship to do this to. Seems like you would need 1k+ dps to destroy it fast enough?

Using gila with point atm so t2 will just warp off i will try gila w scram(+3) and see can i brake it before fleet lands.

Always kill t1 warp of D scan belt wait for fleet to warp off go back tractor in loot did it many time never did i got wreck despawn but i rly did not hunt for weeks so they might did some changes.

ship used for combat

loki frig spawn combat

sleipnir frig spawn combat

gila lazy mode hauler hunter only.

Gila can't break the T2 hauler doesn't have the punch to do it in time at least with my skills, tried it and survived. Closest i've been are with an DPS Navy Brutix but got the Caldari BS spawn so i MJD and then warped off.
So, to get the T2 hauler i cheat as the response fleet do, shoot the T2 hauler until it warps away, as it warps do the same as you doesn't going to waste time on the response fleet anyway.

Then scan the hauler down ( prescan the hauler before aggroing it to get signature ID ) and BM the scanned location.
If it was the frig spawn, warp in at 100km and reaggro frigs and drag them away until you're about +400km away from the hauler. Then warp to hauler and kill it, response fleet will have a hard time getting back in time, this can be done with Gila, Ishtar Geckos+mediums and my favorite Hecate or whatever that have high DPS.

If it wasn't the frig spawn move on to next system since if it wasn't you have to wait out that particular spawn to disappear. Then reaggro the scanned down hauler which in turns warps off, needing another scan down which is to much time wasted imo.

No security standings hit, only standing that's involved are standings towards the corporation that owns the Mining fleet.
So if you're killing the Mining fleet/s belonging to DCM - Deep Core Mining you will get a standing hit towards them and that's it.
If you're busy doing this sooner or later their stations will start shooting at you or warp in on you in belt if their mining fleet
are there even if you don't attack the fleet as per this forum post: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=505932

Not sure can you alpha it but i did regularly left gila hammerheads behind while i was warping out and upon warp back reconnect and dock in bay so i don't think MTU will take any agro if left behind.

I don't bother, there is no point fighting bots, and the reward is not worth the effort/risk.

I'm my own NPC alt.

Funny that just took gila for a spin to see can i hold and brake t2 mastodon(not a chance barely scratch it before cruiser fleet landed).

Anyhow got 5-6 t1 haulers all drop boxes with skins last one drop according to jita 750m to 1.5bil aoede mining laser upgrade.

Not bad for 45min spin around mini high sec not for me at least.

Is there difference in loot t1 to t2?

It's all rendom, best i've got from the T2 haulers except skins are the lesser worth miner upgrade and a couple of miner drone bpc's which i manufactured and sold, no excavator bpc ones yet.
