Please enhance overview so we can have multiple filters visible. This can't be hard to do. Why would you not? I'm an incursion runner and would like to have friend / foe / warp to visible.
I imagine almost anyone would support this amongst the players.

Right Click the Overview > Overview Settings > Look! You can make your tab have whatever you want in it!

OK, make overview TABS undockable and multiple overview TABS visible simultaniously.

Oh okay, gotcha. Yeah that could be useful, would be nice having a little tab open of moons and planets for hopping around in dangerous space

i want this so bad. they need to let us have different column sets as well in the separate windows

This is actually literally impossible with the way the overview is currently coded. The game is designed to have a single overview and a ton of the UI revolves around this assumption. They'd need to re-code a substantial portion of the UI to make this possible.

Yeah, this is one of those ideas that is on the Eventually List. It's something that would take dismantling a bunch of really old code. The idea in general is known as "multiple overviews" and pretty much everyone agrees would be awesome, but the cost+risk seems to be too high to hope for it in the short term. imo, this would be one of the early steps in doing the game's desperately needed UI revamp.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

I'm not actually sure it would be.

We'd be looking at a complete rework of the in-space UI from the ground up to allow multiple overview tabs to be visible at the same time. This would, at minimum, necessitate changing the workings of any hotkey that relies on the overview as its implied context target. So things like the "Lock Target" hotkey would have their functionality change, possibly in a substantial way.

That's without even getting into the amount of work this would require on CCP's part, as well as instantly making all existing overview customization by players obsolete. From the way I've heard this talked about from CCP's side and from people who have talked to CCP this feels like a year+ of work at least and would likely freeze work on anything remotely related to the in-space UI.

There's a part of me that really hopes they get to this eventually, but the dev in me looks at what we know about the scope of the work and just flinches. At the very least if it were me I'd want to chip away at it a lot by refactoring as much surrounding code as I could first, which actually feels a bit like what CCP are already doing with the slowly advancing UI rework they have going.

Another example for peeing all over the less fortunate. They should have banned multiboxing right from the start.

Which ui are you thinking of cade? Brackets?
If it is then we can always have one overview window that is 'dominant' and ui settings can be based on that.

Despite the op being a dirty incursion runner, this is a freaking awesome idea. +9000

It's certainly worthwhile from a gameplay perspective, Daichi Yamato has a good idea, even a side tab of planets and gates that isn't a replacement system for the overview is a stopgap we could work with.

I don't use it for multiboxing, I have my single client stretched across two windows.

Nope, everything in the UI that relates to a target or anything in space is connected to the Overview window, which is designed from a coding perspective as a unique entity that the rest of the in-space UI is effectively built around. This isn't as simple as simply creating other Overview windows and leaving one dominant. When you code with the assumption of a singleton entity like this the whole thing tends to explode rather spectacularly if you introduce a second of that object.

On top of that you would need to make some pretty major UI changes to distinguish between "primary and secondary" overview windows, and you certainly couldn't just paste in the existing code for it because that's wired into a ton of functionality.

Just to get a point across here, things that I know for a fact are wired into the concept of a single overview, just off the top of my head (there are others I'm sure):

Brackets
Bracket Colors
Color flags in chat windows/local
The Selected Object window
Any selected object or overview related hotkey
At least some amount of Fleet related UI
Anything stored or referenced in an overview config

Just one. But it's 40 inches across.
