lol unless you have something that removes "trackers" such as ghostery app for windows, companies and 3rd parties already have an extensive profile on you. Just for logging into the EVE online forums, there is two trackers which are Optimizely (Site Analytics) and Google Tag Manager (Essential).

Vast majority of sites ask for your permission to track your behavior online while there's also a sh*t ton that don't. I wouldn't worry about Facebook dude. I'm sure companies already have a pretty nice profile on what your favorite food is to your favorite bed time story as a kid.

So have fun on Facebook and create yourself an account.

Better Understanding

Ghostery is collecting telemetry about you that the company behind it then sells to 3rd parties. Use EFFs Privacy Badger plugin instead. That actually respects your privacy.
Same goes for AdBlock Plus with their whitelists. I recommend uBlock Origin, which also runs way, way faster.
And NoScript is a must-have as well, along with rejecting all cookies by default and using a tight whitelist for that.

When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

At the very least I'd have to turn Javascript on for them and most likely cookies too. I refuse to do either, but with every facebook domain known to me directing to 0.0.0.0 (yeah, I actually filled /etc/hosts up with that crap, not that it matters much) it's a no-brainer anyway. Can't watch what I can't even access.

YouTube uses a different approach to FaceBook, but whether through an embedded iFrame or HTML5 player, you're not going to have a great experience if you have JavaScript turned off. If you are watching videos with JavaScript turned off, then you've authorised an exception at some point.

It's possible to come up with all sorts of chains to narrow down problems with any site. YouTube, FaceBook, Twitter, Vimeo, etc., it doesn't matter which, you can object all you like.

Doesn't change the stupidity in this thread of people claiming they need to give access to their whole life to watch a video, when you don't even need an account at all.

As for cookies, who cares? Why all the fear about cookies saved by a site that you don't otherwise use at all? Just delete them, like with any site. Tokens in LocalStorage too.

But if you are worried about the oh so dangerous cookies and local data storage, then every browser has a setting that allows you to delete the information when you close the browser, or you can just manually delete it, same as every website.

its too easy for me to reject it. im not about to exchange my rights for a csm video. i dont see what benefit facebook brings that is worth signing their contract, so if that means i cant watch a csm video, im perfectly willing to do that. if you're willing to give up yuor rights for a csm video, that is also your right

im just asking if it could also be posted elsewhere because there are many of us who resist against facebook. i dont care if its cool or hip to not care about our rights anymore, maybe im just old. But thats my choice

i also refuse to shop at walmart, i do a month long boycott of any products im forced to watch advertisements for on youtube.
I havnt had TV service in over a decade. I dont own a modern TV... tho i still have an old CRT for my NES console! nothing beats crt color bleed for old games! I dont own a cellphone. I dont visit seaworld. I refuse to own a car, and instead use public transport.

I find it satisfying to avoid companies that i believe are offensive and counter to humanity. I dont feel like im missing out on anything. You can call me names and insult me for that if you like, but it is what little i am able to do, to make a difference, however small that might be.

That's incredibly lazy, to be honest.

As opposed to not watching the video where it already exists?

As opposed to not advertising your **** everywhere you should. I have no issue with Facebook. I have an issue with the Devs spending more time replying to these dipshit threads than they do uploading their advertising materials to multiple platforms to reach the broadest audience possible.

CSM meeting minutes aren't "advertising material" though?

You must not have read the facebook contracts you agreed to when signing up. And avoided all the news articles discussing its overreach. I dont really blame you tbh, everyone just clicks Accept to anything. People install flashlight apps on their phone with every permission possible, so someone accepting a facebook contract blindly isnt surprising.

Have you ever wondered how the largest social media site on the planet operates for free? all that bandwidth, free? I'll give you a hint: You are the product.

I dont understand why people get so offensive about this. Im not forcing you to do anything.

You can watch the video without a Facebook account. When the thing pops up telling to you sign-in or register, click "Not now".

I personally despise Facebook, even Mark Zuckerberg has been documented calling users of his site "dumb *****" for trusting him with their info.

Despite all that, CCP can use any platform they wish.

**** you're stupid.

It goes beyond facebook's signup contract. They also collect data on everyone even if they dont use facebook, even if you never sign up. Refusing to use facebook includes never visiting the site. Never being a part of it. Never registering as a "view" on any of their videos. Never registering as a "hit" on any of their pages. Never being a recipient of an advertisement on their site. They only exist because people use it. If people stopped using it, they cant stay in business. You are supporting a business that is stripping the privacy of every person on the internet. Thats your choice, but its also my choice to avoid it like the plague. If im a horrible ****** person for not submitting to a horrible company, that i gladly take that title. Im a horrible ******* person. Im a complete idiot for not using facebook.

Now that we've cleared that up, can we get over attacking me personally and just discuss the pros/cons of simply posting the video elsewhere? As someone said earlier, its about marketing. Well, posting it on other sites would only expand that marketing reach, would it not?

Holy ****. It's 1984 arrived.

The pros/cons of posting the video elsewhere? You would be in no different a position in terms of what you give up (close to 0) by watching that video on FaceBook, YouTube, Vimeo, or anywhere else.

The level of paranoia is nuts.

But see this is the thing. You aren't asking to not use a monitoring device. You are asking CCP to use the monitoring device that YOU want them to use. You think Google doesn't receive analytics from you browsing youtube?

Wrong.

I'm insulting you for spewing bullshit all over this thread, complaining about having to sign a contract with FaceBook to watch a CSM video, claiming you have to give them access to all of your privacy to watch a CSM video, claiming you couldn't watch it when you didn't have an account and claiming wrongly multiple times about having to sign up.

I could care less about you not wanting to have a FaceBook account and not wanting to support them. I don't have an account either. I could care less about them.

But the bullshit you have spun in this thread deserves ridicule.

And now, throwing in even more rubbish about war and healthcare.

This is a simple link, to a short video that exposes you to no privacy risk higher than any other site the video could be hosted on where you don't have an account. Nothing bigger then that.

If you are concerned about the risk to your privacy that these CSM videos provide, why are you even using the internet at all?

I dont think ccp cares tbh. as for youtube, i've got a VM set up for it, and am confident in how i've protected myself from them while using it. Other than that, you've gotta pick your battles. I've decided to never touch facebook, and simply asking for it to be posted somewhere else. Im pretty sure im not the only person who wont use it.

anyway, i assume this thread has been derailed far enough that the next official post will be its closure. Kinda sad.

But really, please post it somewhere other than facebook.

If that was all you'd done, this thread wouldn't be the trainwreck it is.

From your OP (post #1):

I shouldn't have to sign a contract with facebook, giving them rights to my whole life, just to keep up with eveonline news.

Post #9:

I could only see the video for a fraction of a second, before a giant white box popped up demanding i sign in or sign up.

Post #57:

If you dont mind companies harvesting every detail of your private life and circulating it like a giant stalker network, then go ahead and use it.

Post #67:

im not about to exchange my rights for a csm video. i dont see what benefit facebook brings that is worth signing their contract, so if that means i cant watch a csm video, im perfectly willing to do that.

Post #73:

If you'd just simply (as claimed above) asked for the video to be hosted elsewhere, I'd even agree with you. It's all the scaremongering and bullshit about having to sign away your privacy to keep up to date with Eve Online, etc. That's the objection. You've been wrong in your facts the entire thread.
