Convenient for everyone involved.

However, using Facebook (or any form of social media) for official company correspondence is not very professional. The proper route to take would be to host their videos on the Eve website. That is how professionals communicate with their customers.

The CSM is a CCP marketing tool. As such, anything produced is an advertisement and belongs on an advertising platform. It's certainly not "official company correspondence."

Well, that's how professionals communicated with their customers in the 1990s...

It is not convenient for me.

In related news, Fozzie has posted a poll in Twitter. I'm not participating either.

I don't like tweetfleet as much as I used to since the US election but CCP would be pretty stupid and foolish to not use every means at their disposal to get everyone involved on as many social media platforms as possible. I don't like r/eve or the facebook at all personally but I check here and Twitter multiple times a day. I remember a huge push from CCP and it's community leadership to get players connected on instagram or whatever as well.

I almost never check CCP's main page anymore.. it's target audience seems to be towards the curious consumer that has heard of our game and gets thrown lots of little things if they signed up today.

Would be interesting to see a breakdown or analysis by playstyle and what method you stay connected with the game is.

How is clicking a link and watching a video in one site any less convenient then clicking a link and watching the same video on a different site?

That's some screwed up "I hate ..." thinking disguised as inconvenience.

Nope, not in this lifetime, do not underestimate the number of people who WILL NOT USE FACEBOOK under any circumstances.

Consider any message, video or news ever posted to there lost to me and many of your other customers.

As the saying goes, suck it up, and get over yourselves.

Nothing is important enough, that you could ever say that justifies facebook rummaging through my life and data like a starving racoon.

Too much?

Actually no.

Add me to the list of people who don't wish to use Facebook. I would like to turn around CCP Falcon's condescending remarks as to why don't we use the world's most popular social media site, and ask, why not upload your videos to the world's most popular video upload site?

On the privacy & security front, there are a number of valid reasons not to use Facebook, which were recently addressed in a separate thread just two weeks ago: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=507776 There, instead of offering easy, practical solutions like uMatrix and VPN to users, a moderator told us to either get used to our privacy being invaded, or "give up Facebook."

I am among those users who - as the ISD suggested - chose to give up Facebook.

I would like to add that in order to use youtube, you only need to enable the single script that delivers youtube videos; however, in order to view a facebook video, you have to enable other, privacy-threatening script envelopes before the video player becomes available for viewing, which the user must then, in turn, also enable.

Privacy violating data trackers are present regardless of whether the user is logged in, which is the root of the concern being raised by OP, and categorically dismissed by CCP Falcon.

I love the game and community, but not Falcon's cavalier attitude toward our valid concerns. Privacy is important.

Hahaha the tears from this are just hilarious now.

I hope CCP put every video there now. This is genius.

Well, when CCP wonders why they are not getting the response they expected, maybe they should not have learned their marketing from a 2003 magazine article.

And enjoy all those ever so useful offers you never even considered purchasing, Again, and again, and....until your dying day.

And thats the best case scenario.

Enjoy your facebook, You won't see us there, so you will probably imagine we don't exist.

Win win for us.

Please excuse the snark - I don't know where I'm getting this idea, but I think you may have a somewhat capable server too. So you could, you know, host them yourselves. Don't get me wrong, please advertise the game wherever you feel like. But if it's important information concerning the players that you already have, I think you should stick to your own services to communicate it.

I myself try to avoid Facebook wherever possible, and I would love to be able to see what my elected representatives are doing without using a 3rd party service. I don't see why this would be a problem.

This is not only an issue I see with those specific videos. It's the same with devs posting and discussing things on reddit or twitter or wherever, but not on your own forums. And it's not the first time this topic has come up either.

I beg to differ on the marketing tool.

I'm entirely free to publicly disagree with CCP, and have done on occasion.

Of course, when I do, I'm professional about it. It's just common courtesy. Big smile

That's because too many people dislike the moderation here and CCP, in it's usual way of handling things, decided to not tell those ass-blasted player to HTFU and follow the rules. Better go to reddit where 3rd parties make the moderation instead of yourself, especially after you spend god know how much corporate resources building your own forum...

It's pretty simple economics for CCP to have their videos on Facebook, since the only people who dont have a Facebook are tinfoil hatters, who don't realise companies have their details already.

However if I was the marketing team, I would not be content having these videos, which are advertisements, in only one place. I would want to push the video to as many potential customers as possible, using as many big platforms as is practicable.

Its not "tinfoil hat" if its literally exactly what they're doing. Openly. Admitted to. Refusing to use it is a form of boycott. Its how you tell a company you do not like their practices. You 'vote with your wallet'. If you dont mind companies harvesting every detail of your private life and circulating it like a giant stalker network, then go ahead and use it. But personally i dont think that should be a thing thats happening, so i refuse to use it.

That's incredibly lazy, to be honest.

As opposed to not watching the video where it already exists?

Actively boycotting a company and seeking that content elsewhere is not "lazy". It in fact takes more work to find the content, rather than just using the provided link. Its hard work!

The dev response is disappointing. It makes me wonder if they've got a partnership agreement that promises to use their platform over others in exchange for money or something, which is entirely plossible given the Oculus Rift situation mentioned earlier.
I was also an early supporter of the Rift. Once facebook bought it i vowed to never own one. I'm now in the HTC Vive camp.

Why couldn't we use Twitch like the o7 show? It allows for easy, quick, painless live streaming, as well as saving the video for later.

Oh man.... That's like something out of AOL in 1998. Except AOL just made it virtually impossible to figure out a way to unsubscribe. FB is worse, they have your info stored, for their bots to have their way with. Forever.
