The Caldari [solved]

So, I used to be a Dust player. The old saying was "Caldari is hard mode". I chose caldari then but I could compensate by repping 50 hp/s where the average damage was only about 30 (hide, heal, win, etc.). So I started Eve as Caldari thinking it would be better and it was far worse, I am currently testing the Amarr race on SiSi and a T1 destroyer was able to do 500+ DPS as stated by the fitting window, it did ~900-700 to sleepers. The Caldari on the other hand, a destroyer as well, could reach 200 DPS and maybe 525 Impact (may have been cruiser on that one with blasters). I do get that they have passive reps but their boosters use more Cap. Like Dust the Caldari have less tank. I know the Caldari are snipers, they by the lore developed sniper rifles (rail tech) but it doesn't help much when you can't hide. Anyways, enough of the comparisons.

Why are most shield tankers (caldari, matari) stomped down in the eve universe? Is it meant to be a race where you have to be skilled to use? If so, I do I change to Amarr?

I know nothing about the matari here, but in dust they were fast, dual tankers so they seem weaker as they have to account for reps on both mid and low slots while keeping tanked, nimble enough to get close, etc So I might not have as much right to complain as they would

Side not: I miss Rail Rifles

Minmatar stomped on? Pfft. Explains why all the hardcore PVPers I know fly rusty. Roll

Shield is not inherently weaker than armor, and can be every bit as capable. You just have to fit and use it differently.

If you got 500 dps from a coercer you were using pulses, if you got some 200dps from a cormorant you were using railguns so the comparison dps wise is kinda moot. There's a few things that are important in this:

- damage types, lasers do EM and thermal and the higher range crystals you use the less thermal it does. This means that for PVE against non EM weak targets it's going to suck. Also means that for PVP going against targets that are decently tanked vs EM (armour tankers and T2 Minmatar) is going to be crap

Hybrids do thermal and kin which are the middle of the road damage types that always work decently, or really, well in PVE. In PVP they do equally well vs armour or shield tanks but suck vs T2/T3 caldari or Gallente ships

Caldari have awesome tanks and anyone telling you that Caldari sucks for PVP should not be listened to. At the same time you shouldn't listen to people who tell you Caldari are the PVE race. They're different sides of the same ****** uninformed meme coin.

They're different and work differently in different scenarios, up to you to figure out what would work best for your specific play style and which you prefer more.

I could only compare from my knowledge of Dust, amarr lasers there were good against both, dealt high damage. I also double checked and even with the long range equal in amarr it got 5 dps more and about 100 extra impact damage (without skills)

But, at least I know the caldari takes some know how here too, I'll be training up an amarr character just for the extra dps and less cost of ammo.

Thanks for the strategic pinpoint help

No race inherently does more dps than any other. Weapons systems are a balance of damage, range, and tracking. All the DPS in the world is a waste if you're spending all your time getting within range of your target, or if you can't hit your target. Of the four weapon types (missile, hybrid, laser, projectile) each has a short and a long range variant. Each has their own niche and I currently use everything except railguns (long range hybrid) in some form or another. Rails got a big nerf a few years ago but even they're still useful in the right kind of fleet and situation.

Likewise, shield is not better than armor or vice versa. For PVP, an armor tank frees up your mid-slots for e-war. A shield tank frees up low slots for DPS. And the passive tank some of the Caldari ships can put out is absolutely outrageous. They certainly don't have the least amount of tank.

Lasers use capacitor when shooting, hybrids also to lesser degree. Missiles and projectiles dont use cap at all. Now Amarr ships have better cap than Minnies do but once its out, your dps goes away while the Minmatar one can keep shooting.

Just something to add to the comparison.
