When I am buying or selling something instantly on the market, do I pay fees?
Does it matter what my skill levels are in accounting and broker relations?

Sorry I am at work at the moment and cannot log in to check.

You pay sales tax but not broker fees. You do pay broker fees if a non-instant duration is selected even if your order is fulfilled instantly, a rather tedious piece of UI screw.

You pay a transaction fee (most people call it sales tax) when you sell. You do not pay a transaction fee when you buy.

You pay a brokerage fee to create a market order - buy or sell. An instant transaction does not create a market order - it fills an already existing buy or sell order.

Just as a small tip, in some cases selling straight to buy order (immediate sell) without creating sell order can be more profitable, especially when margins are razor thin and you got your goods cheaper from other places.

I've done this a lot with PLEX where I got them considerably below The Forge prices and I sell them to buy order 'immediate' in Jita as creating sell order for them would cost broker fee, resulting in less profit for me (when buy/sell gap is very very small). Of course, there's also option to list them on sell order with cheap/almost non existent broker fee in Perimeter, but not big enough difference for me to move the stack of PLEX there & wait for the orders to be sold, when I can get immediate ISK return in Jita. :p
